He might have been geniunely humbled. Besides Paul has his empathic vision back so I am sure he could tell whether Lonnie is being sincere or not. He doesn't seem to be worried so I assume Lonnie is questioning his own choices now and rethinking how to approach things.

What you have to remember is that Paul really, really does not want to reel Anarky in unless he has no other choice.
The OMACs are going to end in disaster. Everything the SI knows about how comic book land works screams it will end in disaster. But every investigation[1] he has run says the Justice League taking over is the best path to keep everything running. So what can he do? Having a group of "outside auditors" like the Illuminati continuing to investigate and question is at least keeping the door open for someone to be able to act when the whole thing goes tits up. But... that's only viable if they're not doing evil shit themselves like mind controlling people. He can't justify continuing to let them run loose if they're going to be hurting innocent people. So the ideal case is that a strongly worded warning gets Anarky to reconsider his methods but lets him continue to monitor things.
[1] Though technically Paul still has a team of Darkstars working on a long term investigation. Would not want to forget that. We going to hear from them anytime soon, Zoat?

Basically, the Illuminati are Paul's 'break glass in case of Justice Lord Batman' option. He can tolerate some tomfoolery from their direction as long as they keep it to a dull roar and don't...y'know...try to mind-control the world themselves.

And since I'm back in one mental piece again I know exactly what I want to do.
A sonic shatterer construct appears before I've even finished looking around us, ring scans guiding it to the correct frequency-

His head jerks up, looking at the piles of fragments now sitting on his work bench and shelves.
"Why did-?!" I glare, noting that he isn't wearing a costume in the physical world. "You didn't need to do that."
"I think I did."
"Aaaah…" Zatanna looks a little disappointed. "It… Might have been helpful to study those."
"Before we start studying making crystals resonate with peoples' characteristics, let's finish studying-" I nod to Timothy. "-Mister Vergence in the Force over there."
Zatanna frowns. "Huh?"
Wait, was that not in the Earth 16 version-? No, Zatanna's a normalish woman who hasn't spent years memorising science fiction trivia.
"I'm comparing him to Anakin Skywalker, from the-"
"Oh." She nods pityingly.
"-Star Wars prequels?"
"Uh. Uh?" Know Man pushes himself into a sitting position, holding his head in his hands. "Wha-? Why can I-? Still see everything?"
I use a construct to wrench his hands behind his back, and bind his arms with my preferred blend of iron, tungsten and carbon nanotubes.
"Because it turns out that the human brain is actually fairly responsive to trauma. We're an empathic bunch, really. Good work, Hunter."
"I wasn't.. trying to permanently traumatise him. Um. I could-?"
"Don't even think about it." I give him a warning look. "We've had quite enough weird magic from you for today, and we're going to have to go through you to make sure that you didn't keep anything from those trauma creatures either."
Zatanna raises an eyebrow. "'We'?"
"Yes, because that's a two-person job and I can eat malevolent influences without any risk to myself."
"Oh."
"And because I know it's going to be a long and tedious job so I thought I'd stick around."
She brightens up slightly. "Oh, thank you."
Lonnie looks around his workspace and pulls out a dustpan and brush. "Am I under arrest?"
"Depends. We can arrest you over the kidnapping and mind control."
"I think-" Zatanna nods. "-we should."
"And because that's a clear example of supervillainy against critical infrastructure, we get to do a full mental trawl just in case you were doing anything else. Which you clearly were."

She nods, and we file out… Ugh, I'll have to notify the local police and get them to do interviews. The people here probably don't know all that much and I'm sure they'll say even less. Lonnie seemed to be popular with the local children, rather than a sinister tearaway.
The OMACs frown. "Lonnie Machin is not on file as having superstrength."
"No, the super strong guy teleported away. Please bear with us while we finish up here, and then take him to processing."
They nod, and I generate a zeta tube terminus construct for the others.

Gosh, with two OMACs on prison transport duty, Lonnie definitely isn't getting away. Not unless there someone with a documented history of being able to control OMACs intervened, but how many guys like that can there be?

I miss the days when having a Power Ring, the entire GLC database, the pilfered work of a dozen super-geniuses and the support of a billions of years old Controller was actually worth something.
So how long do we think it will be before Anarchy either gets rescued or escapes? I'm betting within a month, assuming he doesn't slip away within the next five minutes.

You know, it just occured to me that with those glowing orange eyes, Paul could do a really sick Sith Lord cosplay. Seriously, just put him in Anakin's clothes, and he'd be able to pull off a good Episode III Anakin.

Since I've been out of date with story for a couple years, I figured making an epub would help me get back into it. Here is the link to it, it contains all posts on the story only thread. It retains all font colors, font styles, font sizes, invisitext (though you may have issues finding a reader that doesn't display it), images used, and hyperlinks. The one downside is that the table of contents consists of only the episode threadmarks, which makes it annoying finding the supplementary renegade and paragon sections.
I briefly scanned the present up to date epub, and while it has a toc entry for all posts, there seems to be an error at some point, or on my end, because it loses colored text, or uses the wrong colors, from what I've seen.
Also, fun fact, the fic is 5.7 - 5.9 million words long depending on the word count system used.

Yep and Mr.zoat is going to keep going until he reaches season 2 of the TV show. Which I think takes place in 2016? Zoat started writing this fanfic started in 2014 or 2013? Makes me wonder how long it's going to take to reach that point. 10 more years? More?
