Well, Shiroe was mainly playing as Shiroe and not ROE2 at the time. Technically, no human has perfect multitasking, at any moment you have just one focus as a person.
Now this is just speculation, but maybe have someone who the player was looking at at the exact moment of world fraction?
I don't really know, since there isn't much data on it yet. It applies to Log horizon since it's an MMO, but this is irrelevant to SAO since the necessity of NervGear would mean that someone would have to be wearing two helmets at once to even attempt your idea.
So unless you're thinking about siamese twins with two heads both wearing a Nervgear (which I admit is a rather interesting concept) Having someone with two SAO characters simultaneously played is rather unlikely.
Yeah, it wasn't precisely an idea suitable to the thread. My thinking with regards to it is they were sitting there with either account on it's own monitor, their friends lists as close as possible, just waiting for a friend to come online so they can bother them. Just...paying attention to one task of 'find a chance to hang out with a friend.
