For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.

I've only read up to vol 4 chapter 5 of the translated parts, so this is only a partial impression. First chapter opens in a sudden and complete info-dump in character, as everyone has already been tossed into the first movie.
Main character has a good enough backstory, and his characterization flows well from there, as well as his character growth as the story advances. Other characters, aside from the redshirt newcomers who didn't believe the explanation and died to keep the horror, are pretty well written so far.
I've only noticed the MC's plot destiny/supreme blessing/authorial fiat coming in once. At the first movie -Resident Evil 1, a very easy one, according to the veteran, because you can kill every hostiles with a gun- they got the mission objective of following the mercenary leader.
The veteran of the Jumpchain claimed that it was only follow the leader till he gets killed -spoiler, he got diced in the laser hallway- but MC saved him, and he gets a bonus worth 5 times surviving the whole movie.
