POV: High Hermit Degent Chynn of the Ancient Order of Pessimists

At the sounding of a dull bell the robed figures gathering. This was most inauspicious as it was already past the time for the morning portents.
"Hear me Brothers! Woe be unto us!"
"Woe, woe, and seven times woe!"
"In a fit of unfortunate pique I have cast the ritual bones a second time in one day. An ill omen to be sure!"
This came as no surprise to other brothers. The omens were always ill for a follower of the Ancient Order of Pessimists.
"Yet what I beheld was dire indeed. A result of such dire predictions that has not been seen since the Bounty Hunter Boba Fett and Lord Vader destroyed our brothers and their monastery in their duel on Maryx Minor!"
The mention of the deaths of their deceased predecessors always brought the anticipation of tragedies to the Hermits. Truly any form of optimism in the Order was thoroughly squashed after learning of such a misfortunate occurrence.
"What visions of doom have you witnessed, High Hermit?"
"The bones foretell a convergence of pessimism in the Northern Outer Rim. A saint who despite not knowing our faith adheres to our tenants most faithfully. No matter what illusions of fleeting good fortune the galaxy may tempt the saint with, they will maintain the conviction that things will inevitably go horribly wrong."
The Head Hermit's words brought murmuring among the Order. Many were thinking of what great lessons in calibrating their expectations by learning from such a wise sentient.
"I have decided that a number of our Order will partake in a most likely doomed pilgrimage to the saint. Once we reach the world where they reside, we shall found a chapter and build a hermitage so others may learn through our example that we live amidst the worst possible outcome. Thus robbing others of their comforting ignorance.
Perhaps we shall build it near a volcano. That way when the worst fears of our brothers come to past, we may consign their bodies to a fiery pit as is our Order's tradition."
It was at this point the Order's weekly appointed Party Pooper undertook their holy duty to point out flaws in everyone's plans. Such was his burden to bear.
"But Head Hermit. How will these pilgrims get past the Deep Cores's Hyperspace Security Net? Those Gravity Mines and Jammers will make this a futile effort."
The Hermits nodded along at the Party Pooper's wisdom. The assurance the various ways the galaxy could ruin their days.
"Worry slightly less my brothers. The journey will not be as arduous as it first appears."
This statement brought a scandalized gasp amongst the Order's numbers. Was the High Hermit indulging in the heretical practice of optimism? Such a thing was anathema to those following the teachings of the Order. Especially after participating in such a sin brought doom upon their predecessors via orbital bombardment as revealed by the ritual bones.
"Our brother in faith and patron, Moff Foga Brill has seen what pitiful worth there is in our mission. He has offered to guide us past the Hyperspace Security Net even if he cannot partake in the pilgrimage. However take heed, for these seemingly concrete plans are but dust in the wind compared to the galaxy's will."
The brothers took heart in the Head Hermit's words. Knowing full well that any expected outcomes are only there so that the galaxy can laugh when it disappoints us.
"We shall begin selecting volunteering by the end of the week. Those who think they have least chance of success will be chosen. For they best understand the ways of the galaxy. Then we journey, to the Minda system!"

I wasn't intending to post a second Omake today. However I looked into religions in Star Wars, found these loonies, and it just fit too perfectly.
I don't know what I find funnier: the fact that both this Order both exists and managed to posthumously convert a Moff of all people for a time in canon, or that I can see the Force 100% sending a genuine prophetic message to these guys to further screw with Las.

Walking down the hallways of the R&D department, Yop considered his current assignment.
In the meeting hall down at the other end of the building sat a group of engineers from RHE. Apparently, the Governor had been hard at work acquiring the company's shipyards to be set up in orbit.
Now, from what he heard, a decent chunk of the shipyard's workers were hired on to train up locals and the like. The senior engineers, the ones that work on these ships and help design them, are the ones he has been slated to meet.
They weren't planning on designing new ships, no. At least, not during work hours. Instead, they were going to be looking over every aspect of the ships that were slated for construction in the soon to be active shipyards, and see where improvements can be made.
What parts can be simplified? Standardized? Made easier to repair, replace, etc… The idea was to go the same route as the TIE variants. The more parts from other, more common ships they could use, the better. Everything that could be made easier to acquire from standard Imperial requisition services, would be. So long as it didn't impact the ships performance, they were free to go wild.
Entering the room, he took a look at the assembled group. Around two dozen people stood about, all human. Then again, RHE is part of KDY, a core-world company. So it's not a particularly odd thing all things considered.
As they turned to look at him, he spoke.
"Hello there. My name is Yop Calio, head of Development here on Minda. I look forward to working with all of you."
There was the usual rippling wave of mumbled greetings, and it was clear to Yop that they wanted to get down to business right away. Who was he to stop that?
"You all are being assigned to the Starship Department, where the team behind Minda's very own TIE variants is situated. There, you will be working to make more efficient, logistics-oriented redesigns to the ships that are planned for the upcoming shipyards. Once these upgrades are tested and ready, production of said ship will shift from regular standard to the new standard. Any questions."
For a few seconds, there was naught but silence. From the looks he spotted in the crowd, some of them weren't all that happy with an alien giving them orders. Tough luck. Those with such attitudes would either keep quiet, or make a fool of themselves and get booted out. He would not suffer fools within these walls.
"...What ships are we working on?" Asked a woman in the back, partially obscured through the crowd.
"More specifics will be available with the rest of the team, however the ships will be of the corvette class. The Raider, Vigil, and Customs corvettes, to be more specific. Again, further details will be available in the Starship Department."
After that first question, it felt like they opened up, if only a little. A few more questions, and he was leading them to their new department. After he dropped them off, he started his way back to his office.
There was much work to be done. The transportation team was going rabid over some new Core World train tech, the Lothal transfers were adamant on reworking the Defender and Elite projects, and the armor team needed remedial courses on workplace safety after their new Heavy Stormtrooper armor prototype snapped the test subjects arm in half because someone forgot to calibrate the servo's correctly.
He sighed.
At least the pay was good.

Even with the Empire's crackdowns and the generally unpleasant mood the galaxy had been in lately, the streets of Accordia were still filled with markets and vendors, all hawking their wares.
In the central districts, these markets even extended above ground level, filling in the wide sky bridges that connected the skyscrapers on every side.
Here, the city's residents pursued wares from across the Oversector, and in some cases from across the galaxy.
As the markets bustled, wares exchanging hands, families out to buy the weeks groceries, there sat multiple security teams throughout. In the busiest parts of the city, on the busiest days, more police were dispatched to keep things in order.
They stayed in their miniature bunkers, with at least one officer outside to keep a sense of peace, and address any concerns. Within, at least 3 more stood. A few KX Model Security Droids were standing in charging bays, waiting for activation.
In some cases, a security LECA was stationed as well. Equipped with riot control and non-lethal weaponry.
Regardless, these officers never really expected that they would need these measures. Despite the city's ballooning population, not to mention the numerous temporary residents that came here for business, crime was quite low. A combination of social programs, low homelessness and poverty rates, coupled with an economy strong enough to sustain everything allowed for this.
It's because of this that the officers never picked up on the shadows slinking through the crowds. Just another face.
They dodged and weaved, perusing a storefront, then admiring a fountain, then buying a snack. Everywhere, these people acted as normal as can be.
And, as they walked, as they spoke, they observed. Camera placements. Security posts.
An unknown number weaved through the marketplaces many levels. Shadows hiding in plain sight. Unseen.
Except. They were seen.
Just as they maneuvered along, discreetly hiding bugs near security stations, passing notes under drinks, saying phrases so normal none would ever think them code. So too were they watched.
By the bartender mixing their drinks. By the officer that seems to be asleep on the job. By the parent buying toys for their child.
Throughout the marketplace, as unseen shadows flitted about, unseen eyes watched them. The mundane. The unnoticed. So caught up in their mask of normalcy were the shadows, that they never stopped to think that the shadows can always be deeper.
For every bug planted, an alert was raised. For every supposedly discreet message, a report was sent. For every blindspot marked, a hidden camera was placed.
Prey, thinking themselves predators.
Fools, caught in a little spider's Web.

Hi there folks! Sorry for the midnight drop. Woulda been sooner, but I was working on a chapter for my other story. Speaking of, I was considering a third story. An original. It's the big sci-fi project I've been working on worldbuilding for forever. The kind of thing I would post on RR as well, ya dig? The kinda story that would get updated once a week or two with 8k worth of words each chapter. Don't know if I'll do it yet, but maybe. Lotta war in that one tho. Threw in some of that Successor State bullshit from Battletech, then made it all bigger, and more Star Wars in terms of tech.
As always, feedback and commentary appreciated.

I mean when the main source of your system's industry gets bought out from under you, I imagine many of these workers would jump at the chance to move with it. Rothana is heading for a complete economic collapse at this point.
Standardized logistics are a powerful drug. Just having the ability to hot swap parts from different model ships and have things work is a huge boon. Especially when the supplies get really short post Endor.
Knowing Core World it is probably novelly retro, entirely overpriced, and uses way too much high tech. I am imagining a steam locomotive with repulsor tech added that costs as much as a small frigate.
I see you have defeated the police, but have you taken in account the secret police?

Honestly the worst thing the Web can do at this time is pinpoint where the Scarred Hands' ship(s) are located. If the Empire knows where your cell's ship is and that it is Rebel owned, that is a red alert situation for any cell and they should be trying to flee the planet ASAP.
For a nomadic Rebel cell, the ship is the command center, the long term equipment storage, the safe house, the escape plan, a source of confidence, an excuse for bravado, and basically as important as a secret lair/hideout is for a super hero or villain. The Rebel owned ship is what stops a cell from having to start at square one when they move planets.
Taking away a Cell's ship is worse than eliminating almost any single member of the group. Suddenly the whole Cell has to scatter and go to ground as they scramble to reorganize. There is now nowhere these Rebels can easily rest or congregate together without risking drawing suspicion. Not like a group of Rebels can rent out a convention center or all the rooms in a motel in order to organize a bombing campaign.
Not to mention getting off world and all heading in the same direction is really hard to do quietly if you cannot acquire another ship. Arranging third party travel for several dozen people is quite difficult without someone official having to get involved. That's not even touching the intel danger if the Empire managed to secure the ship rather than destroy it and get access to the Cell's database.

This raises an interesting point. Minda is both a detriment and a boon to both the Empire and the Rebellion.
On one hand, Minda's success proves the merit of the Imperial system of governance. Great for the Empire, not great for the Rebellion. One the other, that same success being attributed to the imperial systems begs the question "Why aren't other regions seeing success like Minda, and why only now?".
The answer being that Minda got a decent Governor, which is great for the Rebellion but not the Empire. It proves the point that there is a problem with the empire, and that at best its upper echelons are staffed by incompetent bureaucrats and that the change the rebellion wants is sorely needed.

And the other issue for the The Alliance to Restore the Republic is that the end of the Republic was caused by corruption, sabotage, poor policy making the same thing that becomes an issue as stated here, also voting a Sith lord into emperor status, lets not forget our democratically elected dark lord here being the final act of the old republic.
As much as they want this change does it really mean anything if the change comes from governors like Las who don't want anything to do with the republic on account of the above?

I'd say it's an easy spin in the Rebel Alliance's favor. The Galactic Republic was reformed into The Empire in response to corruption and poor policy as well as years of war. Systems traded autonomy for safety and prosperity, but receive nothing of the sort. Why? Because the reforms never addressed the issue, just codified ,solidified, and even expanded the power bases of the corrupt or incompetent that caused the problems in the first place.
