If Las is really loking for money sinks i suggest researching new terraforming techniques to make use of those barren rocks in system, there was this one plant/grass made by sith lord rivan (not a mistake, that's what he was called since he took his name with intent of imitating revan about whom he'd found damaged texts, hence the change instead of taking the old name) that could terraform planets by breaking up it's crust through plunging it's roots very deep and drawing on the planet's warmth

who's to say the many bioengineers that were not mad enough for empire's superweapon programs wouldn't want to prove themselves by creating a ludicrously cheap way to terraform compared to the current methods (eg. ancient rakatan xenoforming stations)
like moss that breaks up the crust,
grass that makes infertile ground into fertile soil
plants that feed on radiation to produce food (mandalorians would love him for this given how fucked mandalore's ecosystem is)

tastier fruits suited to human/alien taste buds, hell, making tastier meats would (unknowingly) open up avenues of trade with say, colicoids who expressly trade their stuff for meat (he will become the Colicoid Meat-God i can guarantee that)

Not a bad idea, actually. Lure in all these experts (like micro-genetists, geo-engineers, gravity manipulation researchers, etc)with a chip on their shoulder, give them a 'dead' world to play around with, leave for a while expecting a blackhole that sucks up all the money, then come by to check on them and be aghast at how they managed to get a reliable terraforming method going in less than 5 years. And now various parties are trying to break the door to your office down to buy the tech.

That the results of this research would later on be used to fix the damages caused by Vong-terraforming is just a bonus.

The small one appears to match the same size as the Avatar mech suits. So I would imagine something similar. Think car seat or jet fighter cockpit.

I'm reminded of the Technicians firing the Death star from an open balcony without even a hand rail, I'm not sure star wars has safety protocols except mabye the occasional hardhat or air filter mask.

If Las is looking for money sinks there is that scraper, ship breaker planet he could buy & refit a couple of acculmators and refit them into trade/cargo transport ship. Or refit them into proper ships by removing the ground troops section rework the hanger to make it larger put more anti-fighter guns on it for a carrier or turn it into a battleship by slapping on more of the big guns and just have it as a pure space fighter. Have R&D rework the weapons layout. In all the space saved by removing the ground section could put in more shield or power generation.
Could also try setting up WH&S work health and safety for the system that would take a heafty amount of money. Also might bite him in the ass by making money from all the fines for failing safety audits for tipical empire companies if there are any in the system or keep them out.

There were various references to what amounts to OSHA guidelines in place for his various facilities (see asteroid refinery chapter when they talk about the big pirate attack), so we know at least the governor has instituted some safety protocols.

Also keep in mind that a proton torpedo (carries enough explosives to damage capital ships) along with the plasma missile multiplied by 4 per tube set up at least + the mechs internal power supply = big boom. The overpressure wave alone would pulp anyone within a certain range. They were likely far enough away that the concussive force of the explosion knocked out the observers. Keep in mind there were some allusions to the MC wearing a shield belt I think. Also include whatever protected the observation area they were at.

Ah, sorry, I should have been clearer: I'm talking about stuff that was described as body armor in the fic; it doesn't all look like it could work as personal armor for a human without dislocated shoulders. Off the top of my head, I believe I'm thinking of the one that they had four versions of (executive protection type, maybe?) and that high mobility one with two segmented mechanical ribbons hanging off the back. If I'm remembering wrong, though, shame on me.

I just thought of another thing that las can build to "waste" money but will still turn out to be super cheap and really effective and that's o'neill cylinder and like the In story reason could be that las wants to spend lots of money and he thinks of earth science fiction and that a gaint spinning space station that is bigger then an ISD must cost more then an ISD but it turns out that you can use really cheap materials and that you don't need expensive sub systems like gravity generators because it's uses spin gravity and you don't need a gaint reactor like the Solar ionization reactor that the ISD has because if it orbits the sun you can have truely gigantic solar panels that work 24/7 and provides all the energy needs or large engines because it only needs small stations keeping engines or expensive light weight (relatively) armour because it uses cheaper materials and just uses spaced armour or expensive energy efficient shields because it has all the energy it needs so it can use cheaper less energy efficient shields or heavy weapons as it not a warship and this starts to expand into a Dyson swarm or if they are all connected together by a frame with half spinning one way and the other half the other it the start to become a ring around the sun or even a Dyson sphere and it becomes really successful because now you have all this space based infrastructure, industry and population that it then expands into a ship yard bigger than Kuat Drive Yards and even leads to ships like the super star destroyer replacing star destroyer because one of the main cost to build anything in the real world and in Star Wars is that some industrial processes that are more efficient and product better results require a lot of energy

Don't need the planet killing laser and may not even need to be FTL capable just have it sit in the system. Maybe turn it into a starbase. Just for the LOLs. The Death Star makes more sense to me as a supply, support and logistics base or even a forward staging base than anything. Hell just have the bloody thing sit on a hyperlane with a interdiction system and it allows you to control the hole thing especially if it's sitting on an intersection where multiple lanes cross. Think of all the money it would cost to set up, man and supply it. Don't forget all the fees you can change people who pass through. You may(most definitely will) draw attention to yourself with this.

Also, the Death Star being a siege engine instead of a planet cracker is a really good idea. The sheer scale of the DS means that you could have a huge, mobile supply depot and still have room for small-scale manufacturing of war material as-needed.

If the Empire still used clones you could also have that all setup inside the Death Star sure it's the size of a small moon but in Clone Wars when you see the clones it's a water planet with cities doing the cloning you would have way more space on the Death Star for that.

Wouldn't this be contingent on Jango being alive to give his genetics over for the cloning process, or would Boba (or any other clone, really/maybe) be a suitable replacement for Jango's DNA?

I think Boba would be the best bet given that Jango requested he just be a normal boy and not modified like the Clones were, so there'd be less genetic weirdness to have to work around. Not that Boba would do that, given that I think he hated the Clones, and hated being a Clone himself. I think? I dunno, I'm not super deep in that Star Wars lore.

Anzacs invade the star wars universe. Palps could have done a massively better job of setting up the Empire military if he moved the cloning equipment to the Death Star and gave it manufacturing ability you could make and arm, supply the forces you need on site or with some prep time in the case of the clones. But Palps was too busy drinking the Sith Kool aid for that. That's what I would have done when turning the Republic into the Empire at least. Mimi Death Star's sitting on the major hyperlanes to control them.

In legends they did do that for a bit after the Kamino uprising, but the amount needed outstripped both the amount created and the cost of their creation(It was cheaper to train some randoms than it was to clone and raise soldiers).

Maybe, but the initial cost at the very least is to much, more than a billion credits to get a simple facility running, and that's no including the equipment, training, or education.

I will say, we should get in on the 1-H Hover tank. there was originally only 1,500 built with 1,420 being on the Deathstar 1 when it blew, if we set up a factory for them we have a powerful, cheap hovertank.(each one costs only 50,000 for this one, 45,000 for the 1-M[medium], and 40,000 for the 1-L[Light], which is cheap compared to the 42,000 for the Sabre Tank)

Hmm true but I still think it would be funny if it was just research into cloning organs or arms cheaply or something that runs out of control that eventually leads to being able to clone people for like 500 credits or something ridiculous like that or its like the only thing really holding back cloning is the energy cost that eventually ties into my other idea of o'neill cylinder colony where if it orbits the sun energy isn't a concern
