(Partially) fixing the tag system

Yes. A futa is a hermaphrodite, as in having both male and female genitalia.
That is not at all how I've seen it used. That may be where the original historical medical usage in Japan usage of Futanari came from but futa and shemale are both used for pre-op MtF transgender, people who present with significant breasts and obvious male genetila and related groups (although generally not consider an appropriate term for either).

Those examples are bastardizations of the word and aren't actually Futanari. In Japanese pornography Futanari are hermaphrodites.

In those cases the bastardizations should be referred to as "Dickgirl", the western word which has looser meaning than the Japanese word "Futanari" which strictly means Hermaphrodite.

If suggestions about evil mc has already been given than ignore this. If not, might want to read this.

Evil mc: the many tags I find fall under this is dark mc, grey dark mc etc. Even grey mc because people want to sugarcoat thing and don't want to give evil mc tag despite the mc being very evil. Asshole mc also falls under this. Among the asshole mc fics I read the majority is just plain evil.

The term "girl cock" from what I understand typically refers specifically to characters who are transgender and those with only male genitalia

So, 'girl cock' does sometimes have a different meaning from futa, and has more trans vibes. Will keep the dickgirl/girl cock tags separate from futa.

I get futanari in Japanese might literally mean hermaphrodite, but because futa has fetish vibes, and hermaphrodite doesn't necessarily, I'll keep those separate too.
I don't think these should be synonyms except [masochism - masosub]. Enjoying pain is very different from sadism, and dom/sub dynamics don't necessarily include either.
Fair. Will separate the sadism/masochism tags from the dom/sub tags.

Done all the suggested edits so far, I think. Also tentatively made the stray 'bisexual malesub protagonist' into a Synonym of 'malesub', and found a couple more masochism/sadism tags.

Slightly annoying updating two different version of the list at once.
I would honestly move (currently not nsfw) and (SFW for now) over to possible smut rather than SFW, just as a vibes thing. Those read more as a maybe rather than a definitive like the SFW tag suggests.
Agree with that. Will move when I edit.
Rather, I made them Synonyms of 'SFW', rather than merging into 'SFW' (as it was) or Synonyms of 'possible smut' (as you suggested), but I did move 'most SFW' and 'mostly SFW' into the Synonyms of 'possible smut'.

No one claimed they are. They are however what english speakers (and AFAIK most of the western world) means when they talk about "Futa" and more relevantly to this thread - how the tags relating too "futa" are used.

One suggestion I have is combining the different "hurt/comfort" tags; there's currently at least four that come up:

"hurt and comfort"
"hurt/ comfort"
"hurt/comfort"
"hurt/comfort (eventual)"

I think all 4 can be combined; the last can be handled by mentioning it in the description that it'll be a while before shift happens.

I personally think "hurt/comfort" should be the combined tag, but I don't really care which option gets used.

Last time I checked (over a year ago, and before any of this), we had over 20k distinct tags, and over half of them were only used once. People can't help themselves!

It's so annoying because the tags are there to help people find your story. By making the tag and then changing it like that, it makes it not show up when I look for it in that tag! Why are you hiding your story! You can express yourself by adding the changed tag alongside the real tag or something!

There are atleast two reasons to tag your thread. One reason, as you've pointed out, is to help people search for your story.

Another reason is that they are using them as shorthand descriptors for the story, so that people know what they are in for. Having a tag like 'slow updates' is more for description than it is for filtering. Many of those 1 use tags are part of this second group.

'slash' seems to just mean 'gay', so adding to the gay Synonyms.
Fun history behind how slash came to mean gay. It came from old fanfic descriptions where they included pairings like: Spock/Kirk, and since when you say that outloud, you say 'Spock slash Kirk', well, that came to be the pairing, and since so much of that was gay pairings, 'slash' came to mean 'gay' in time.

I was actually somewhat annoyed that there didn't seem to be an English shorthand for 'male homosexuality' that wasn't also used as a gender neutral term for same-sex attraction, and slash seems to have followed that trend. Yaoi fits, but that's Japanese. 'lesbian' and 'sapphic' would be its counterparts.

'Androsexual' (which no one uses) is 'attraction to males', but that's equally applicable to straight women.
Last time I checked (over a year ago, and before any of this), we had over 20k distinct tags
Noting for the record that it's currently 24,468 tags, so we'll see how much that gets reduced by after I do all these merges. That won't capture all the Synonymising, which links the remaining tags, but it'll be a partial indicator of progress.
