[RWBY] RWBY Shorts

You mean, Port helped the four nations round up faunus to make use of them as worker and sex slaves? He stood aside as his nation massacred women and their newborn despite knowing which child they are looking for? He only intervened in a comptetion intended to genocide the natives of a location because his rival happened to be there? /jk
And did nothing but sat aside and watch as said child, who was his adopted grandson, was executed by the government that he works for? Throw children into a forest full of deadly beasts, and beat them up in the name of training?... Ok, so the latter actually wasn't that bad, but that's beside the point. /Jk

Also when did the last one happened?

Small idea that could be also lewd. But what if to be a Maiden you also had to be a maiden?

As in a virgin. And under 40.
I think someone wrote a fic based on that premise.

Kinda spoilers:
The World Nobles were doing a killing competition on the natives of God's Valley Island. Garp knew about it, but didn't care enough to do anything.

Then Xebec D. Rocks attacked said competition because they had something he wanted back, Gol D. Roger and his crew attacked both sides to take the treasure for themselves, and finally Garp jumped into the fray to stop Xebec. Not to free the slaves. Not to save the natives. He teamed up with Roger to prevent Xebec from killing all World Nobles on the island.

Fuck. Garp. That old fart is a piece of shit hiding behind his 'code' to avoid any responsibility for his inability to do the right thing.

Wait, can Soul technically participate in DB or not? Because without him, Maka is unlikely to do anything to Ruby (i guess, I'm not read or watch Soul Eater). And if he can participate, is it even fair, two against one?

So, with Healing Dust as a potential vector to create Aura-activated drugs, you can have drugs that affect Huntsmen/Huntresses. What kinds of effects might happen with Hunters on drugs (and thus good reasons for this shit to be banned?)

Well you got all sorts of options. The dosage could be based off how much Aura you have. The dosage could be raised from just having your aura active. Now that I think about it yang, nora, Ren and Blake are the characters who have the highest chance of running across illicit versions.

So, with Healing Dust as a potential vector to create Aura-activated drugs, you can have drugs that affect Huntsmen/Huntresses. What kinds of effects might happen with Hunters on drugs (and thus good reasons for this shit to be banned?)
Gods imagine the idea of addictions going soul deep though.

Absolutely no chance of recovery.

So I'm starting to question if healing Dust should exist in the setting?
Dust based medicine sure, but that's based on the regular existing types of Dust, not its own special kind of Dust.
Healing Dust seems like it's basically a magic potion that heals people, and it has been established that people who can heal via semblances are not only rare but incredibly valuable, which they can't be if super healing items exist in the same world.

There are also only 4 real and naturally occuring Dust types, Fire, Water, Electricity, and Wind (basically the pure kinds of minerals of Dust), with all of the others being somekind of combination Dust, which is most often artificially created, though can sometimes occures naturally, but that's very rare (probably formed something like crystals growing with multiple different minerals mixed into a single formation).
All the combination Dust forms known are; Steam, Gravity, Combustion, Ice, Hard-Light, Lava, Plant, and Rock/Earth.

Although, you want a narcotic effect, what if there could be a euphoric high from being healed by the Dust.
What if two people injure each other or themselves and then use the Dust simultaneously on each other and they gain a euphoric Healing high that loops from one to the other amping the experience.

Side effects of Aura-drugs that are bad for the user? Well, Aura is connected to the Soul, so I would imagine right away substances like Satrophine, a powerful combat stimulant that seemingly has no negative side effects. I say seemingly because every time you take a dose your character gains 1d5 corruption, and becomes more and more susceptible to the will of the Dark Gods. It doesn't give your body meth-mouth, it gives your Soul meth-mouth. So in RWBY terms we're looking at decreased Aura reserves, Semblance dysfunction, Semblance alteration, Dust use difficulty, Dust backfiring or detonating mysteriously when they try to activate it, mutation (Blake's going to love that one), apostatic tendencies.

I joked about it elsewhere but there is also accidentally severing the connection between the soul and the body, which in most cases will result in instant death, with the potentiality of continuing on as some kind of Aura Nazgul.

But anything powerful enough to get a Hunter stoned is probably more of a danger to everybody else on that block than to the Hunter in question. As any combination of euphoric and hallucinogen is going to result in something that is very destructive, extremely hard to stop, and almost impossible to subdue alive without multiple other Hunters. Imagine if Aimo Koivunen was a Huntsman. For those who don't know Aimo was a Finnish soldier who was caught out with his platoon by the Soviets one night during the Continuation War. He was the point man who had to blaze a trail through unpacked snow for his ski patrol. Anyone with skiing experience will realize how unpleasant this sounds without already having been awake and doing strenuous activity for 12-16 hours and now being chased by a full company of guys with Mosins and burp guns. So he took his entire platoon's meth ration (he was trusted with it because he had an aversion to the stuff based on personal moral principles, so he was trusted not to secretly start taking it for fun. Of course, the meth tablets had all sort of congealed together in his coat, and since he couldn't break a piece off he took enough meth for thirty people. Aimo successfully led his platoon out of the engagement, whereafter they took away his ammunition and his knife because he was high, and then he just took off again. He was found two weeks later 250 miles (400km) away from his last known position weighing only 90 pounds (40.9kg) and with a heart rate over 200 beats per minute.

I assume that combat drugs (Aura and non-Aura) see a lot more use on Remnant than they do here. In the age before powered flight they would have been a necessity for long distance travel, with herbalists, botanists, and apothecaries cranking out brews to promote wakefulness, alertness, vigor, and happiness (necessary tools for travelling the lands of Remnant, each of those). And if I ever write something depicting Season 4 or some other long-term travel, the characters are going to be using high-powered analeptics and stimulants for wakefulness and energy to push through to the next town over the course of a night (or three), or if they are forced to sleep in the forest, they have tool on hand to keep whoever is taking watch alert.

In other news, Count has gotten most of his ideas ordered in his head for Ruby-gets-tormented-by-cursed-guns 3. So be ready to meet a couple OCs and a genuine, unambiguously cyborg Whitley. Also trying to prevent cast-bloat so not sure who to take with them. Dragonslayer-Whiter Rose Double date, maybe Penny's team (which Whitly-borg is not on, seeing that he doesn't have an Aura and Pietro doesn't like the idea of leaving his daughter alone around bad influences like Siarka Stark, Lieutenant General Amzel, or Overseer Lowenhardt. Actually, Lowenhardt might just stay in Atlas, Cursed Guns verse Ruby would probably kill him just for getting near Crescent Rose). I have other ideas that I'm not as defined on, so deciding to go with those might prompt further delay, but still...

So, with Healing Dust as a potential vector to create Aura-activated drugs, you can have drugs that affect Huntsmen/Huntresses. What kinds of effects might happen with Hunters on drugs (and thus good reasons for this shit to be banned?)

Drugs laced with fire dust that make people spontaneously and explosively combust as a side effect from poorly made batches, or overdosing.

Ruby - one of the concept arts for V4 and/or Evermorrow design.
Weiss - honestly, don't know. I like V2, but in its form and not the color palette - maybe a combination of V1-3 colour palette and the V2 outfit would be the best.

Question.

If you had to do a death battle style matchmaking where they take two characters which are very very similar in one way or another, who would you select for Ren?

It doesn't even have to be a fight, just a simple interaction would suffice.

I nominate Neji Hyuga.

They both are excellent martial artists that are focused on esoteric ways of manipulating their particular power system to deal more damage than you would expect.

Both are calm and very perceptive. Both can see more than the naked eye using their respective abilities.

And both have trauma related to their parents that were unjustly taken away from them.

It's either him or Shikamaru though I personally believe the Yamanaka abilities have more similarities to his.

Coming to another one of my favourite male RWBY character, Qrow, I think Shouta Aizawa from MHA is a good fit but Qrow is more fatherly than him.

Kakashi is also a good choice considering both of their coping mechanism and bad luck, plus Qrow's past with Raven and Kakashi's with Obito and how they fell to the dark side causing great grief, coming back from the dark side due to a hyperactive blond(Yang and Naruto) and helping regain a bit of the lost relationship.

Something that randomly came to me.

The nature of a huntsman's semblance should change, as they grow.

And I don't mean just in power or usage techniques, I am saying that somebody like Ruby who spreads read rose petals as she runs should leave a trail of withered black roses after V8 cause of the soul deep trauma.

It could be amazing visual story telling if nothing else. Or, you could also show that such deep events(not necessarily negative only) can change in how a semblance functions.

post V8 Ruby moves more sluggish in her petal form, as if wading through a world of molasses yet, you would loose track of her even if she started to move in front of you, as though she is a ghost just drifting by.

Yang's fire is no longer that fiery gold like her hair, a bit more orange like a setting sun, it doesn't flare around with her emotions and movements, it now is a slow constant burn, no longer an inferno of passion but yet it lingers on the enemy far longer, a slow but constant burn as if the dying sigh of a faded star.

Weiss's Glyphs were rigid but noticeably fragile before she came to Beacon, when she became part of it her Glyphs glowed brighter, their movement more dynamic, yes they lost some of that crystalline rigidity but they sculpted into an oh so prettier thing nonetheless.

Then when she had to leave her friends behind, her Glyphs didn't become rigid like before, they started to become droopy, misshaped as if a crucial support was missing from them. Her summons didn't come from glowing platforms of snowflakes, now they formed from melted puddles, eerily similar to the natural formation of the Grimm, as if her grief given form.

Blake's clones somehow at their core don't change, those clones remain the same façade, an approximation of reality.

Jaune Arc, Single Father 11 New
Jaune's been holding onto a holodisk that Katy recorded for him before her death. She was sick for a long time and when it came to a choice of baby or her, she chose to let Mia live instead of her.

Jaune is not sure if he can ever watch it.

But Mia wanting to know more about Katy and his own conflicting feelings make it more complicated.

Yang: "Jaune... You know, I remember my mom more than Ruby does. My dad and uncle showed me all sorts of videos and pictures, and I've started reading her diary with Ruby. I think... I think if I was Mia, I would want to see it."

Jaune: "... I can't watch it. I just..." He bowed his head "Why can't I watch it?"

Yang: "Because losing her fucking sucked, that's why."

Jaune: snort "Yeah..."

Yang: "So... why don't we watch it with you?"

Jaune: "Yang... I-I don't know-"

Yang: huffs "You know, I'm not stupid. I'm not a bimbo. We all put up masks to hide our weaknesses and fears. I know why you act like the stoic leader and hide any emotion. It's because you don't want to be weak for the people you love. You want us to know you're able to handle it. Well... I think your friends will forgive you if you're not handling this. Because we're your friends. And if you can't trust us to be there for you when you're weak, why would we trust you to do the same for us?"

Jaune: "... You're a pain in the ass sometimes, you know that?"

Yang: "It's because I'm right."

Jaune: "... That's the worst part."

Jaune boots up the holodisk. Ruby and Yang sit with him, as do Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren. Weiss and Blake are watching Mia in the other room.

Jaune: "... I appreciate this, guys. I don't... I don't know if I can do this alone. I just... I want to watch it with Mia... But only after I see it first, you... You know?"

Ruby: "It's okay Jaune. Really."

Yang: "Yeah..."

Jaune: "..."

He stares at the holoprojector a while in silence.

Pyrrha: "I can start it for you? Or-Or we could do this another day, any day-"

Nora: "Jaune... It's okay." She's totally serious

Ren: "Yes. It's your choice."

Jaune: "..." Slowly nods. He holds up the remote control, and hits play.

The holoscreen opens up. There's Katy, sitting in a hospital bed. She's pale and sickly, but still smiling. She has a nose tube to deliver oxygen.

Katy: "Hello Jaune. Hello Mia. I've made this recording for you... You know. Jaune... I can't imagine how hard this is for you. You always felt so much, took on so much. You keep blaming yourself for this... You shouldn't."

She smiles a bit more widely.

Katy: "The parting... Is going to be hard. It's okay to be mad at me, to be sad. It's natural to feel this way. I know you will hurt a lot and won't know how to handle it. You'll try to carry on and be strong for Mia. I know you will... Just know that it's okay to open up to others. It will hurt. It will never stop hurting. But it won't destroy you... It will make you stronger. And you want to be strong, that's your dream, to protect everyone. Don't be afraid to pursue that dream, because I know you'll be great at it. Because you care so much. And don't close off your heart, please. I know how sweet and kind you are, so never lose that. Please."

She takes a deep haggard breath, and continues.

Katy: "I'm sorry I can't do more for you... But you made me the happiest I've ever been. We... We've made a baby. And she's wonderful. Even now I can feel her and I know she's going to be beautiful. And I'm only sorry that we didn't get more time together... That's the only regret I have. But I am so, so glad we met, and I am so glad we made her. And even happier that she will be healthy and happy."

She looks at the camera a bit more wanly, even as tears fill her eyes.

Katy: "Mia... I am so sorry I won't get to be there with you. I'm sorry I won't get to read you bedtime stories or cook you dinner, or play with you. You'll be confused about it. Maybe even sad. And that's okay, because it's something to be sad about. Don't... Don't hide your feelings, okay sweetie? Be honest and kind and straightforward. Listen to your father, he loves you and only wants the best for you. You and he might fight, especially when you get older... But he only ever wants you to be happy, and so do I."

She pauses for a moment, before she continues.

Katy: "The world can be a very dark and scary place sometimes. So dark and scary and terrible that you want to hide forever. But there's also so many wonderful and beautiful things in it. Love. Family. Friendship. These... These are the most valuable things in this world. Though it doesn't hurt to save your money and be careful with it." She laughs a little "Your family will teach you, we're good at it. Be careful of bad boys: A lot of them might look flashy and cool, but it's the good guys who can be dangerous but know when not to be who are the best, just like your dad. You're going to have bumps and bruises and bad things will happen... But please, never stop being a good person. Don't let the darkness in this world remove the light, because that's what we're here for: To be the light when things are dark."

She takes another shuddering breath.

Katy: "Finally... There are many kinds of battles. I... I had to forgoe taking the medicine that would cure me, because it would hurt you. Don't ever, ever feel guilty about that, Mia. I fought this battle, and I'll win it. Even if this takes me... You will live, and that's a win because I love you. A mom is supposed to protect her child, and that's a battle worth fighting. If I had to go back and do it over again... I wouldn't change a thing. Not meeting and loving your dad, and not having you. Because I love you both so much. One day... One day, we will meet again. On white shores, in a green land without pain or suffering. We will all be together. But not for a long time. So, be a good girl, say your prayers, and be kind. I love you, Mia. I love you, Jaune."

The recording ended. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. Jaune bent his head, tears rolling down his cheeks. Ruby and Yang hugged him from either side, while Pyrrha hugged him from behind. Nora squeezed in to hug him too, while Ren squeezed his shoulder.

Jaune: "... Thanks guys."

Ruby: "... Any time..."

V1-3 for Ruby. This is going to sound kind of heretical, but V7-9, well really V8-9 Weiss, V7 Weiss, that braid looked like it just wasn't coded in properly. But I like the braid and the fact that she kind of looks like a short, color inverted Lulu (Final Fantasy X) with all of the belts. The braid shows the elaborate/extravagant over-the-top nature of what you would expect from a scion of one of the richest families on Remnant. Plus it brings back her original side-ponytail look that V4-6 did away with for no discernable reason. V1-3 Blake is best Blake. The black vest with coattails looks classy-yet-seductive (possibly an early hint to her family's true wealth). And the bow, on top of looking cute helps me forget that I'm looking at the least sexy catgirl on the internet every time she's on screen. V1-3 was also before they gave her boobs the outboard eggs look. So it also gets my vote. Yang is V2 Alt. The use of browns and oranges throughout her ensemble makes it feel like CRWBY was ashamed of giving her that amazing head of long luscious blonde locks and they're constantly straining themselves to keep it covered up from the audience. Here the use of a white top and limited (though bright and vibrant) accessories properly allow Yang to flaunt her beauty (which again, I am positive that allowing her to do it emotionally wounded CRWBY). As opposed to looking like she's wearing a potato sack that they stole from Cordovin along with the Bullhead.

Something that randomly came to me.

I think you're on the right track, in principle, but it forces us to ask: How mutable is the Soul? What does it take to change not just a person's body or mind, but the unquantifiable quantity at the center that individuates the Self? Yang, I agree with. The idea that Adam mutilated not just her body, but her soul. The shining vibrant vivacious Yang died at Beacon and such a change would be proof-positive that we're left with a shambling carcass that goes by the same name.

The whole moral of V9 was apparently supposed to say that Ruby does not need to change, if Count understands it correctly, which in the estimation of many I do. But if you ask me, what Volume 9 really says is that if the characters had any brains they'd blow them out.

Blake it would be funnier if after V5 her Semblance changed into simply fading away like her relevance to the story.

Weiss, I personally don't think she went through enough to fundamentally alter the core of her personality so as to justify the change between V3-V4-V5. Which brings me back to the initial question. What does it take to change a person's soul? Because I want to explore this line of thought, but I don't want it to reduce to bad mood and bad experience Semblance debuffs and using narcotics to keep you happy enough to buff the Semblance efficacy.

For example: I had an idea for a character a while ago, whose everything, and I mean everything, was erased and replaced by another OC's Semblance. But that character hacks up flickering, magenta Schnee glyphs on Semblance activation now, and I would have it that this would be the big reveal of that character being a secret (once) member of the Schnee family.

In other news, now that I've gotten The Dragon, the Witch, and the Himbo sorted out. I can get to writing another episode of Ruby getting tormented by incorrect weapon design.

So, I was toying with the idea of having it as a Whiter Rose Dragonslayer double date because Ruby wants Jaune and Yang to pick up some secondary weapons that will work at greater-than-lunging distance. But I think that could be a second storyline in and of its own. Because Jaune... Actually, Jaune and Yang having a minor adventure with the OCs during some kind of terrorist or bandit attack on the convention. Scratch that, nobody in their right mind would attack a gun convention. Scratch that, it could just be that Yang and Jaune wandered away from Ruby and Whitley and started trusting the weapons conglomerate CEO wolf-girl and the very stereotypical German mad scientist that the Atlas army trusts with a whole division for some reason for weapon advice. I think I'm going to have Penny show up, and maybe Neon too so I can start telling Whitley harem jokes too (this is not a Bumblebee timeline, so Ruby is not opposed to sharing her man).

I think you're on the right track, in principle, but it forces us to ask: How mutable is the Soul? What does it take to change not just a person's body or mind, but the unquantifiable quantity at the center that individuates the Self?
That really brings up the question, What is a Semblance?
The characters call it the manifestation of the soul, but we see that it can be affected by both genetics and events at the moment of awakening. We also know they can evolve over time.
If it is the manifestation of the Soul, then you have to ask how much does the Soul need to change before the semblance does. If someone has depression and starts taking medicine will their semblance change?
With all that being said. I do think that semblances changing as the cast suffer is a great idea. To use the example for Yang, her semblance changes after losing her arm, instead of boosting her strength it actually boosts her aura's defense. She becomes a juggernaut, able to withstand heavy hits then use that energy to boost her aura shield to take the next hit. But it's also not able to hit as hard. It represents how she feels helpless and wants to hide away. Then you can have a moment where she isn't strong enough, where she faces her fears and starts to recover. The glow around her goes from a dull orange like the last embers of a dying fire back to the blazing gold of the early seasons.

Or Blake, after she runs away her clones begin to be more like Sun's, they can move and support her. But they can't ever attack. Any damage causes them to collapse, and she can't use dust with them anymore. Then once she shows up to Haven and stops running her Clones stop being able to move but in turn now are much stronger able to actually take a few hits even without dust.

Make it so the changes aren't ever a strict downgrade, but still show that a power boost isn't worth the suffering.

or Would Tai Grandpa be a Mr. Miyagi / luong lao shi [American Dragon] that could not train Yang or Ruby but had amazing success with _WB_ and JNPR
