[RWBY] RWBY Shorts

Haa... You know the worst part? There's no chance RWBY will ever see a fan revival like Harry Potter. It's not good enough, not well known enough, and the creator is dead and the people who took over the IP aren't going to suddenly become based. They drove the show into its self inflicted identity wars end, where the only thing people remember about the show is the Homophobic Ruby meme and the porn. The show isn't even that good, lacking the depth of Harry Potter or the wider audience. Yet I became fixated on it because, having lost the best job I ever had, I thought to myself, "Maybe I can make something beautiful out of this broken IP." And I have made a few beautiful things out of it. But engaging with any part of the larger RWBY fandom is almost impossible-It's mostly far too toxic. Not unless some miracle happens and it's rebooted by a based Japanese studio that drives out all the weirdos.
I mean, this implies that HP isn't also a giant burning trash pile and, uhhhhhhh….

The real question i have to then pose is which studio should get RWBY?

Because we already got a Japanese anime reboot in Ice Queendom. And that took the Oum Curse full blast.

It wasn't the revival the FNDM were so sure would save RWBY and it was from god tier MAPPA.

That's because CRWBY still interfered and Blake's VA caused online drama because she's a stupid drama queen.

Literally everyone and anyone.

VIZ is the American branch of a distributor. They hold the rights to a lot of big animals distribution in the US like the grandfather and grandmother in Sailor Moon and DBZ.

So they have connections.

The issue is more that VIZ itself not a studio. So they have to contract out. It's why its taken two years just to get volume 10 greenlit and we STILL don't know who's working on THAT. Just that its "in production" with the only known individuals working on it being Kerry since he was kept after the sale and likely the original RWBY girl VAs. As they appeared in the announcement.

But depending on how much MAPPA talked with other studios, no one may take the job knowing Arryn is part of the project. MAPPA certainly won't.

Personally I'd like to see ufoTable get a crack at it. MAPPA cut too many corners on IQ animation. I wasn't impressed. UfoTable blew it out of the park with Demon Slayer. That might be enough to recapture some of the Oum Magic.

Let me try and figure out who did Promare. THAT movie slapped so hard i thought I was actually watching RWBY again.

All we need is one public scandal bad enough to breach the contract and they're all gone. And ViZ can recast them all, which honestly they should have done. Ruby and Weiss's VAs are fine, but Blake and Yang's are the worst. And Kerry is a scumbag.

Oh. That was Studio Trigger. The ones also behind Darling in Fraxxx, Cyberrunners, and Star Wars Visons.

HELL FUCKIN' YEAH. They have my vote for a crack at RWBY.

But still as I've said once before, VIZ will need to dump CRWBY as a "writing team" and get some ONE to cook in the writing room.

Not a TEAM. A LONE INDIVIDAL.

What If Jaune's Semblance was the Skyrim Skill/Perk Trees? New
Threadmark 3 of 5 from SB

Here's some things I thought up for the Game Mechanic Semblance Idea.

What If Jaune's Semblance was the Skyrim Skill/Perk Trees?

Alteration -20

"I CAN FIX THIS! I SWEAR!" Jaune shouted out as a angry Yang, hair ablaze and eyes burning red, held him aloft by the shirt of his uniform.

"YOU BETTER ARC, OR YOU'RE SPENDING THE REST OF THE SEMESTER IN THE INFIRMARY!" the furious blonde yelled.

The reason for her anger is obvious to any observer as they would immediately notice the lack of two of her more noticeable 'assets'. While taking the time too work on his Semblance, and as luck would have it, Yang and Weiss had the poor timing of walking into spot of what his Semblance told him was the 'Mage Light' spell when he cast it. The result was something none would have expected.

"Oh lay off him Yang. It was an accident after all." surprisingly said a smug Weiss as she stared into a mirror, admiring her new figure. She would have to visit a seamstress later to get her wardrobe refitted.

"SHUT UP, AND GIVE ME MY BOOBS BACK!" Yang yelled at the heiress as Jaune sobbed. How the heck did trying to make a ball of light lead to this?!

Blacksmithing 40

"How does that work?" Ruby asked as she watched Jaune sharpen his sword at a grinder while holding an ingot of steel against it, gazing in wonder as the metal was actually added to the weapon, strengthening it.

"Honestly, I have no idea. But hey if it works, it works." was the reply she got. Shaking her head Ruby looked around the work station Jaune has set up in the forge, and noticed a crate off to the side. Walking up to it get a closer look, she saw it was actually full of Iron Daggers.

"Hey Jaune, what's with all the daggers?" she asked.

"Oh those were just a bunch knives I made for practice. Throwing them out, or melting them down didn't feel right to me, so I figured I give them to Pyrrha to use with her Semblance."

Ruby immediately imagined Pyrrha, her hand held high and a demented smile on her face that looked more at home on Nora or a Serial Killer as a storm of knives surrounded her, and shuddered. Maybe she should get rid of these while Jaune's distracted.

******

That's all I got for now.

Cheats New
Well, you reminded me of something else I've forgotten to bring over. Here it is:

You know what would be even funnier? As a very crack idea?

He discovers that, just like he now lives via videogame mechanics, there are glitches in the system!
"Jaune, why do you have so many cheese rolls in your inventory?" Ruby asked as she glanced away from her sniper scope and over her shoulder to him.

"Yes, that is a concerning amount of cheese," Arslan agreed even as she took a defensive position in front of their downed teammates.

"I don't really have time to explain," Jaune answered. The Grimm horde that had surrounded their teams on this mountain top would be on them in a few moments. "Just follow my lead when things get weird."

He emptied the cheese rolls from his inventory. All of them. Every. Single. One.

Over ten thousand cheese rolls tried to occupy the same space at once. Then? Then they exploded outwards.

And then things got weird.

Thousands of miles away Queen Salem was viewing the battle remotely via a Seer Grimm, sipping wine with a satisfied smile knowing that the next generation of great heroes was about to be snuffed out before their prime. She placed her glass down and glanced to her subordinates about to make a profound statement surmising the futility of the heroes' struggle only to pause at the oddity before her.

Watts and Hazel were walking into her courtroom, but they were janking around as if reality wasn't sure where they were supposed to be on their walk cycle.

Salem's eyes widened in terror.

Lag.

She looked to the heavens and screamed.

"TODD! DID YOU TIE THE PHYSICS ENGINE TO THE FRAME-RATE AGAIN TODD! ANSWER ME!"

Get the people who did edgerunner running to do it

By limiting yourself in that fashion, you are making the statement that no one else can suffer that kind of injury among the cast. Therefore everyone else is safe from a limb amputation. That is dumb plot armor.
While you're right, there's also that little issue of "if everyone is special, then no one is"—if everyone ends up with an amputation, it also undermines the story's credibility.

Furthermore, even though the injuries involve different limbs, it would still feel quite repetitive to have both Yang and Pyrrha in such similar situations—but then again, that's just my take on it.

On Pyrrha Dying New
Look guys... I am fine with Pyrrha dying. But before you get up in arms, let me explain:

I get what Monty was trying to do with Pyrrha's death. Show that anyone could die and raise the stakes, not unlike Aerith's death in Final Fantasy VII. Fine. It was just done very poorly.

What we needed was Pyrrha bonding with everyone, being a big sister or friend to everyone, opening up and becoming someone the main teams cared about. You keep the unrequited romance with Jaune but expand it, maybe explain it a bit. You have Weiss realize she should see Pyrrha the girl and not Pyrrha the Invincible Girl. You have Nora and Yang help Pyrrha open up. You have Pyrrha and Ruby bond over being prodigies and how hard that is. You have Pyrrha and Blake bond over being outsiders, you have Ren and Pyrrha bond a bit-In other words, you have Pyrrha affect the lives of the people she's with. You make her death matter to more than just Jaune and her team.

Hell, have her defeat of CRDL and how good a sport she was after make them soften a bit. What we needed was more time and more character work. There was no need to leap to the darker, edgier stuff with Volume 3. Take time, have some slice of life, training missions. DEVELOP THE CHARACTERS.

In other words, make Pyrrha's death hit better, hit HARDER. And make her sacrifice make sense-Cinder is about to get the Magical Relic with her powers. Or Pyrrha has part of the Maiden Powers, enough she is able to stand up to Cinder, who beats Pyrrha with her more ruthless tactics or experience. Or Ruby gets there, Cinder nearly kills her, and Pyrrha takes the hit for Ruby and dies. Ruby then activates her Silver Eyes.

Look, I do like Arkos. Not as much as other pairings but I do like it. But the key to it is the TRAGEDY. That's why it hits so hard. So my argument is: Deepen the tragedy. Deepen the connection Pyrrha has with the other characters. Make her death hit everyone hard PROPERLY. And maybe leave room for her spirit to come back at key moments so she aids her friends and the man she loves along the way.

Alternatively you could have Cinder have gotten the rest of the Maiden powers from Pyrrha and now she has to fight Pyrrha's memories and mind. That makes Cinder a more interesting villain and gives Pyrrha something to do.

As much as i love Pyrrha and Arkos i probably would have her die as well.

Yeah Pyrrha death doesnt hit hard because her death is practically a Jaune issue, not a JNPR issue or a RWBY and JNPR issue, Pyrrha only really have interactions with Jaune, and Jaune along side Ruby are the only characthers conected both teams, RWBY as a show needed more time in the oven that is Beacon to form the relationship between both teams beyond Jaune and Ruby friendship, because we dont see both teams interacting without Jaune and Ruby causing it, Nora and Ren are practically solitary islands separeted from the rest, Pyrrha only really have Jaune and some early interactions with Weiss when she was min-maxing her team, the show should have either stayed at Beacon for its entirety of its run or abandon it after fleashing out our main group completly.

Would have pyrrha fight with Cinder be more epic and actually show why she was to be picked to take amber half of the maiden power.

Have it that Cinder is actually losing and then the fight gets sent to the streets of Vale and its there where Pyrrha dies she has Cinder on the ropes and Cinder knows it so she attacks fleeing clivians and so pyrrha tanks the attack saving them but it leads to her death. And pyrrha as she dies laughs in cinder face and points out that the only cinder won is by underhanded moves and she always be weak

R v B: Radian Prank War New
Threadmark 4 of 5 from SB

That is pretty fun. Another might be the Red/Blue fight starts up but it's a prank war. And Jaune and Nick are on opposite sides.
Jaune, garbed in the painted armor of the Radian Militia's Red Team stared in horror at the monstrosity the militia leader was creating. "Sarge are you sure about this?! That's a chemical war crime you're making!"

"Nonsense!" the mad man said as he stirred the mixture he was cooking "The El Mongo Stink Bomb is an old family recipe created by my Great Uncle, who passed it down to my Grandfather, who passed it down to me. Now pass me the fermented fish heads and Griff's dirty sock so I can add it to the mixture will ya."

"Here ya go."

"Thanks Nick." Sarge said as he took the offered ingredients and added them, "Those dirty Blues won't know what hit them." only too pause "I better have not saw what I just saw." Turning around he saw Nick, in the armor of the Militia's Blue Team, as well as Tucker and Caboose. "The Blues! We've been compromised!"

"Dad! What are you doing here?" A nervous Jaune asked as Nick turned to his son with a deadpan look. "It's my Garage." He said. "And I got curious as to why Griff was sitting in the middle of our hallway, missing a boot and reading a magazine."

"Damn it Griff, you're supposed to be keeping watch!" Sarge shouted at the lazy watchman, who responded with a lazy shrug and went back to reading. "Bah, so what now Nic-"

"CABOOSE NO!" came the shout of multiple people as the large man poked the stink bomb, starting a chain reaction.

"Tucker did it!" was the last thing they heard as toxic fumes filled the garage and spread throughout the town.

Griff stopped his reading to sniff the air. "What smells like roses?"

I get what Monty was trying to do with Pyrrha's death. Show that anyone could die and raise the stakes, not unlike Aerith's death in Final Fantasy VII. Fine. It was just done very poorly.

Now see THAT is what sends me flying into blind rage about it and I would have DEFINETLY broken Monty's jaw over it.

I don't feel ANYTHING about death. I have never cried at a funeral. Even as the people closest to me have died and half my family as of today is in the ground.

Aerith's death supposedly came about as the writer or director of the game using their wife's death during development as a mean to grieve and come to terms with it. I don't know how true that is but while I don't feel anything about the death, it does make me empathetic about it. So I get it. It had an emotional impact on people and was a rare thing to happen in games at the time.

It happened organically and was maybe the result of someone trying to process grief. I can respect that.

But not here. Not in this day and age when it was little more than a checkbox one ticks off like a cheap amateur writing trick designed to hook people by the heartstrings and yank on them.

Because it shows that people don't truly understand Aerith's death and what it actually signified.

Now I want to go back to Count's whole shtick about broken narrative promises. While he outlines why Jaundice was a waste of his time (and I disagree seeing it as a necessary introduction to our B team) the idea that a narrative promise was offered and then broken for a complete waste hits hard and explains a good bit on why Pyrrha's death was worth assaulting Monty and DEFINELY the rest of CRWBY over.

Because first off, the entire thing started as A JOKE.

Pyrrha Nikos name literally translates to 'Pyrrhic Victory'. A victory won at great cost to the point that it may as well have been a decisive defeat by all other metrics.

So when they named Pyrrha, they weren't planning on treating her death with any real significance or impact.

They were giggling thinking themselves SO CLEVER coming up with it.

That's an immediate red flag for me and I would have immediately twisted the narrative into a subvert of Pyrrha's fate.

Fast forward then to Volume 3. It happens, Pyrrha gets killed.

But who really won at the Fall of Beacon/Vale? Which side actually accomplished the majority of their objectives in that fight? The name afterwards should tell you.

Meaning that Pyrrha's death was ultimately pointless and served no purpose. She even fails... EPICALLY fails mind you, to even fulfill the prophesy of her name. Even this so called 'claim' that 'nobody is safe' is bullshit. Because we are how many seasons past that now and how many of the main cast has died since?

CRWBY does not have the goddamn fucking BALLS to even follow through on that promise that 'everything would be darker going forward'.

So Pyrrha's death was little more than a checkbox "because all the greats did it" without understanding WHY it was significantly relevant.

If you REALLY want to see how badly they screwed it up, I've been sitting on a Veteran's Take on how the Battle of Beacon played out and who really won.

If you REALLY want to see how badly they screwed it up, I've been sitting on a Veteran's Take on how the Battle of Beacon played out and who really won.

My own take would be that Pyrrha saved Ruby's life at the cost of her own, Ruby unleashes the Silver Eyes, and Cinder and the rest of her forces have to retreat from Beacon due to her injuries. So Pyrrha's death does actually serve a purpose: It saves Beacon and Vale from collapse and our heroes have to pick up the pieces and clear out any remaining resistance that didn't flee when Cinder ran off and their biggest, most powerful Grimm got turned into a giant paperweight.

THAT would have made sense. It also ties Ruby AND Jaune to the path of avenging Pyrrha. Because she saved both of their lives.

Furthermore, even though the injuries involve different limbs, it would still feel quite repetitive to have both Yang and Pyrrha in such similar situations—but then again, that's just my take on it.

It doesn't have to be repetitive at all, especially if you go with my musings about Pyrrha's family trying to stonewall her.

Yang's recovery arc was all about a loss of confidence with her present family doing what they could to restore her confidence so she could get back in the saddle again. Pyrrha's in contrast would be about a woman wanting to get back into the saddle as quickly as possible while her family is doing all they can to stop that from happening believing that will keep her safe.

Those are very different stories in spite of their similarities, and those differences could be interesting to see run in parallel.

Look guys... I am fine with Pyrrha dying. But before you get up in arms, let me explain:
-sniped for brevity-

I've said before that Arkos is my favorite, but in spite of it being my favorite I can admit there are some RBWY stories where Pyrrha's death is the right narrative call.

Basically my feelings are if you're going to have her die at the Battle of Beacon you need a better reason for it than "That's what the original show did" and if you're going to keep her alive you need a better reason than "It's the opposite of what the original show did."

Guys, Archive of our Own might be down for over a month. So in the meantime, I'll be posting my fics over on Wattpad. Just so you all know.
