I'm new to this thread and don't completely understand it yet, so forgive me for asking:
Why would I vote for other stories instead of the ones I actually want to read?
Especially since you seem to be trading the votes, so in the end it wouldn't really make a difference anyway.

The idea is that if you have 1 or 2 stories that you really want to update, and don't really care for any of the others, you can get 'extra' votes for the ones you like by trading off with someone else, them voting for your preference and you filling in their preference to your otherwise empty (or uncared for) lower-tier slots.

I'd argue that, in practice, it generally results in someone voting exactly as they would have anyway, and using that to leverage votes out of the person they're 'trading' with, but it seems to be working well enough that people keep doing it, so idk.
