With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

As funny as this, this really isn't painting Matthew in a good light given his ring should have been able to detect both that she's a telepath and that her records are fake.
Only if he bothered checking. But he seems to consider it the wrong choice to scan Kelsey. And he doesn't really have any reason to be suspicious of her anyway, not that he would notice them.
We agreed to meet here at half past seven, and I don't think that scanning for Kelsey would be a good idea, either in terms of my increasingly implausible deniability or in terms of building a healthy relationship. But if I misunderstood and she's expecting me to pick her-

The whole "has no reason to be suspicious of her anyway" falls apart given his knowledge that he's in a semi-dystopian future.

And his knowledge that he's a publicly known figure.

And his knowledge that he's rich.

The Reach really don't want the Green Lantern Corps getting involved. They're pretty sure they can outlast NEMO, but they honestly don't think they could survive a mass mobilisation by the Green Lantern Corps, who must be taking notice of the Orange Lantern Corps working in concert with a conventional fleet subservient to them. Their worst case scenario is the Guardians calling in millions of years worth of debts and invoking a mass galactic mobilisation against them. So while they're making 'for sale' versions of the weapons they are definitely not actually selling them, because they know that the moment they do, they Guardians are going to say 'alright then' and decide that the treaty is void.
a) Do we, the Reach, or you, know what the guns, or for that matter the yellow crystals, do when aimed at someone with inherent Glow abilities, e.g. a Maltusian?
b) Are you following the rule of thumb in regular DC that there are something like 7000-7500 active Green Lanterns (including trainees, Honour Guard, Illustres, Corpse etc) at any given time? And how does that compare to the present number of Orange lanterns? We already know there's one each red and blue, two yellows plus deputies, a handful of Anti-Green and Pink rings, and an unknown quantity of indigo and black rings.

On the matter of the anti-construct guns, this is a story of vast expanse and scope. There's bound to be the occasional dropped plot threads or ideas that Zoat decides not to follow up on in favor of something better.

On this we agree. Though the level of set-up and follow through, as well as the sheer scale of this particular thread, based around the Main Character's main enemy (at the moment), mean that - while it can be removed later - it really does need a reason. This isn't "I promised Holly I'd see her for pizza," this is something that shapes the future of the galaxy. Worse, it already had a major on-screen deployment; there needs to be a reason that it isn't used again. (Even internal reach "well it didn't work" would be enough for them not using it themselves... but they need a reason to not outfit the galaxy with these weapons, turning every system into the Vega system.

Maybe Dox got his hands on one, studied it for a few hours, and then came up with some subtle adjustment to construct creation that got pushed out to all the OL and GL rings and now the guns don't work anymore. Alternately, maybe the guns require some special unobtainium material and can't be produced in large numbers. There's other explanations I'm sure.

The first is better than the second.

1. Dox is not a power ring specialist. More importantly, the Guardians/Controllers are right there. Now, the Rings haven't been altered in a very long time; it implies that it's difficult to do, and given that it functions by shutting down the rings/constructs, it probably can't be just dealt with via shield. It drains power? It's like Osmosis; high concentration to low. Still, this is probably the better option - have the Controllers have rolled out an update, with the Guardians not having bothered beforehand (after Hal encountered him) because Jack Chance is one person. Say the constructs automatically vibrate in a way that disrupts it, whatever, it's all hypertech. Fuck Jack Chance in particular for trying to sell out the galaxy for a buck.

2. The Reach already outfitted an entire fleet with hundreds of these guns; they can clearly mass-manufacture them.

Having it be something that they rolled out a software update against, that just took time for even the Controllers to figure out (thus preventing Paul from getting it before fighting the fleet) works. Especially if it was a lucky break and not something expected, justifying Dox not immediately saying "I contacted Hinon, and she says she'll have this dealt with in a week."
Or perhaps the Guardians were already working on it since Chance shut down Jordan in a fight, and it actually took a long time plus a bit of work to get them to share info with the Controllers.

The whole "has no reason to be suspicious of her anyway" falls apart given his knowledge that he's in a semi-dystopian future.

The Earth isn't really the usual depiction of dystopian.

Sure, the likes of Psi Corp are creepy as fuck, but aside from that, the world isn't much different than the past.

Which is depressing.
And his knowledge that he's a publicly known figure.

Is he though?

Some people may know that he's with a Minbari, but they may just think that he's a tour guide.

And his knowledge that he's rich.

And is that fact common knowledge to the average person, which Paul would consider Kelsey to be?

"The Earth isn't a dystopia so long as you ignore the extremist mind police and everything connected to them" isn't really the good argument you think it is.

Yes, because the interweb exists.

And is that fact common knowledge to the average person, which Paul would consider Kelsey to be?
That sort of problem isn't a case where it has to be "common" knowledge, it's a case where it has to be "publicly available" knowledge.

And it is.

…meaning that the Reach can sell anti-lantern weapons to everyone, as that's within the letter of the treaty?

Yeah, that's exactly the problem that zoat somehow made worse for himself with his answer. The reach can and WOULD sell those anti-construct guns as fast as they could (which is very), because it weakens the GLC and it's allowed in the treaty that's stopping the corps from attacking them

…meaning that the Reach can sell anti-lantern weapons to everyone, as that's within the letter of the treaty?
Anti-construct weapons turning up in the hands of various pirate groups doesn't break the treaty. The Reach provably providing them does. But the Reach are good at not providing evidence.
I can only recall "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "The Boys" off the top of my head.
The Boys is based on the comic series. Babylon 5 is live action.
On the matter of the anti-construct guns, this is a story of vast expanse and scope. There's bound to be the occasional dropped plot threads or ideas that Zoat decides not to follow up on in favor of something better. I agree with the people saying that if you want to close out the thread, just find some reason the guns are ineffective or didn't scale.
No, I'm keeping them.
a) Do we, the Reach, or you, know what the guns, or for that matter the yellow crystals, do when aimed at someone with inherent Glow abilities, e.g. a Maltusian?
I haven't reached a firm decision.
b) Are you following the rule of thumb in regular DC that there are something like 7000-7500 active Green Lanterns (including trainees, Honour Guard, Illustres, Corpse etc) at any given time?
I'm starting with 'two per Sector' so it's probably about twice that.
And how does that compare to the present number of Orange lanterns?
There are more Green Lanterns, but Orange Lanterns are very focused.

You should change the SI's comment, and your own, about them doing exactly that without breaking the treaty

Where did he even meet her, anyway? It just said she "passed him a wine flute". A party?

I imagine he's very cautious. Especially with an unknown like Matthew Underwood.
To be fair, Mr. Underwood did, presumably (as he claims such) through some sort of psionic land mine in his head, incapacitate two Psi Cops - who are, by definition, P12s on the Psi Scale, which is the scale's highest natural rating. This is extremely sus (to be fair, well, it is) and also grounds to be extremely careful even if you just keep an eye on him (which, to be entirely fair to the Psi Corps, is an entirely fair thing to do, even if they weren't, well, how they are).

But Walter Koeing's most famous role is Chekhov from Star Trek. So if/when Bester shows up in the Psychopompt storyline, will the SI go, "This guy looks just like the guy from Star Trek."?
Zoat has quipped(?) that Bester's scan of 'Matthew' would come up as 'this guy thinks I really look like somebody named Pavel Chekov'.

His eyes briefly flick to me. "Ah, hey, if you need five minutes and some mouthwash…"

"Oh, the universe just lays you idiots on for me, doesn't it?"

"Fuck you, limey. I was breaking off a piece in-" I tap my belt buckle and lift the car off the ground. "-fuuuuuuck!" The wheels spin in the air as the driver stamps on the accelerator pedal. "Go go go!"

I saunter closer, shaking my head slightly. The other people in the car… I look across at the driver. "I know you. Didn't I give you a pizza last year?"
I'm pretty sure you've used limey before and it didn't click in my head at the time but as I stare at this I realize the MC is in Gotham, USA and not the UK and that's a British slang term. :p

"There's a pattern of compressed earth over that way which suggests they were brought it from that direction and then the ruts were filled in. The new stones… Actually are Cornish, though they're not from the same place as the old ones. No arcane symbols I recognised on any of them, other than the circle itself." I remove my finger and rehide the pouch. "That was useful. Looks like we're both on lookout duty."
In.

I think for a moment. "I don't remember the last time I dreamt of anything. Given all the work I've had done, I'm not sure that the Terror Thing could connect to me even if it wanted to."
Is the MC connected to the Dream? I know he's not in the Book of Destiny but this thought just struck me and now I'm curious just how far "I can't say my own name" goes as a story plot point.

One thing about the anti-construct guns is that LEGION has already responded to them by deploying the Effigies.

Man, how much does that suck for the Reach? "We have the perfect weapon to counter your Lanterns that were countering our scarabs, hah hah hah! Wait, oh no, you just deployed a new type of super soldier that completely ignores our anti-construct guns!"

As I recall, the SI's thoughts after seeing the Effigies (enhanced with powers from multiple realities including Viltrumite smart atoms) in action were that while Orange Lanterns won't be done away with (far too useful) they will move to more support roles where their various esoteric ring abilities can be leveraged to full effect, while the Effigies become the LEGION shock troopers holding the front line.

18:53 G.M.T.

Gaart stares wide-eyed at my singularity beam projector construct. "Sir, is that something we can all learn to do?"

Jordan nods hesitantly. "Yeah. In theory. How good's your knowledge of gravitational physics?"

"If it lets me create a construct weapon like that, I could begin attending university."

In my mind's eye I see several hundred vector plots as the macro railgun rounds close in on their sluggish targets.

"You'd be better off attending a spacecraft engineering school. You need to understand the machine which creates the effect so that you can replicate it, you don't actually need to understand the physics which underlie it."

"Is that what you did?"

"No, it's just way easier to create complex constructs with an orange ring, as long as you really want to. Okay, ready?"

Gaart's ring splutters. "I'm not sure that I can do this."

Jordan shakes his head. "Gaart, did you hitch a lift here, or did you fly yourself?"

"I flew here myself."

"And did you do that by warping space, or did you use some other technique?"

"I warped space."

"Then you can do it." Jordan gives him a reassuring smile. "There's no real difference between warping spacetime to move yourself and warping spacetime to move something else. If anything, this is easier, 'cause you can see what you're doing."

Gaart's nasal cleft undulates in satisfaction. "Thank you, sir."

"No problem." His ring flickers. "Okay, places!"

They both vanish, hauling the final barrage of macro rounds with them. The Dread Horde's corvettes and frigates have more or less abandoned pursuing us… Not sure what Mongul II is thinking. He must know that Gaart isn't at the dig site any longer… Or does he? Given how much fighting goes on in there, it's entirely possible that they haven't realised… The slaves may well have not told their supervisors, or they could still be gathering the crystal that's there because, well, I'm a little sceptical of the meritocratic credentials of someone who named his civilisation 'The Dread Horde'.

Okay. Aim at the dreadnought… And fire.

Huh. I don't usually fire at targets this far away. It's actually a little pretty-. Yeah, there we go, gravity shields engaging…

Generate a second singularity projector-. Yes, that's it, start to move-.

The dreadnought shudders as the first stealth missile hits, crumbler warhead striking the ship's plasma screen and viciously disintegrating it! I can't scan the interior of their ship, but an impact like that should blow out the emitters along with destroying the shield bubble.

I fire the second singularity projector at the battleship closest to one of the incoming missiles-. Hm, it's got gravity shielding, but it's not quite as effective. I'm seeing vibrations throughout the hull plating-. Ah, they're all activating their point defences, but just as it's hard for us to hit tiny targets in the vastness of space when tiny changes in vector can result in large relative movements, it's even harder to hit small invisible objects with millimetre-wide maser beams.

Another hit.

Escorts change formation, shifting to maximise their sensor and point defence coverage-. Oh, whoops. The capital ships aren't really aiming their point defences, because they're closest to each other and those little microwave beams aren't going to do anything to capital ship armour if a little friendly fire happens, right? But corvettes are a good deal more fragile, and that ship's shields weren't up to the task.

The others continue moving into position anyway.

By my estimations, a few macro rounds have missed. We knew that was going to happen, and there's nothing around here that I'd actually mind hitting, so I guess that's-.

The dreadnought takes two further hits, and begins listing.

Promising, but not a victory just yet. Its gravity shields are still working and for all I know its spatial charge weapon is still working. I'm still-.

Somewhere off to my right, a spatial charge goes off.

Not 'scanning space sector for replacement', not 'scanning space sector for replacement'…

"Report."

Jordan's face appears for a moment. "Not it. Gaart?"

"I'm o-. I'm okay. Got too focused."

"When you say 'okay'-?"

"I'm.. not great."

"Come to me and-" Three more macro shell impacts, two against the dreadnought and one against the battleship. The other battleship nearly takes a hit, but manages to deflect it with its gravity shield. "-I'll stick you back together."

"Uh. Right. Coming to you."

"Hey, Paul." Jordan's face looks thoughtful. "Is this how you usually fight the Reach?"

"No. If this was a Reach fleet, they'd detect the missiles, they wouldn't trap themselves in a gravity well like this, they have higher acceleration and agility, and we'd be knee deep in Scarab Warriors by now." And hopefully they wouldn't be able to form construct nullification rays. Those things have increasingly turned Orange Lanterns into artillery pieces who need Effigy bodyguards. Fortunately, even the Reach can't refit their entire fleet in a couple of years. "On the other hand, their ships aren't quite as durable."

"The Dread Horde do build their ships to take a pounding."

"The capital ships, anyway."

"I don't think they built the escorts. I think they just grab whatever they can-"

Another two impacts on the dreadnought, and it begins to break it two as the remaining internal structure can't handle the torsion.

"-when they raid someplace. And there she goes."

"Shall I switch target?"

"Nah, with a Mongul I wanna be sure."

Several more missiles are turned aside as the battleships try to cover their master.

"Do they have teleporters?"

"Nothing on file. If we didn't hit him, he'll probably take a shuttle to one of the other ships. Or just jump. It's not like vacuum will hurt him."

Over to my right I spot the glow of Gaart approaching me.

"Gaart's nearly back. Do you need to contact Salaak regarding transport for the prisoners and sending the slaves home?"

"Already notified him, but he can't do all that much until he knows how many people-"

"Warning! Fear detected!"

"-he's dealing with."

Construct shields and gun mantle! And scan!

"Jordan did you-?"

The speck of green marking Gaart's location jerks sideways!

Now that its been confirmed in universe that Orange Rings just have the AI do everything it just comes off kind of like the Aimbot user playing an FPS who mocks regular players for not having their skill.

Gaart stares wide-eyed at my singularity beam projector construct. "Sir, is that something we can all learn to do?"

Jordan nods hesitantly. "Yeah. In theory. How good's your knowledge of gravitational physics?"
Yes, since the Guardians didn't want their lanterns to have an easy time of their operation of their Rings. No major AI assistance in construct design compared to an Orange. Most Greenies learn to make do with simple shapes or memorise a useful weapon or two...
EDIT: Well, inaccurate remembering on my part there. Not entirely intentional difficulty... More a case of necessary balance between mental agility and emotional sturdiness, I suppose.

"If it lets me create a construct weapons like that, I could begin attending university."

In my mind's eye I see several hundred vector plots as the macro railgun rounds close in on their sluggish targets.
Damn, no subtlety here. I bet that took a good few minutes to setup for OL and Hal... And Gaart if he managed the railgun constructs. Easy enough with OL guiding him, anyway.

"You'd be better off attending a spacecraft engineering school. You need to understand the machine which create the effect so that you can replicate it, you don't actually need to understand the physics which underlie it."

"Is that what you did?"
Pfft, no. Other colours get to cheat.

"No, it's just way easier to create complex constructs with an orange ring, as long as you really want to. Okay, ready?"

Gaart's ring splutters. "I'm not sure that I can do this."
Ah, the drawback of a Determination-base superweapon system: Self-doubt

Jordan shakes his head. "Gaart, did you hitch a lift here, or did you fly yourself?"

"I flew here myself."
Which is a hell of a feat in itself. Most fleshy beings don't do great in the near-vacuum of interstellar space.

"And did you do that by warping space, or did you use some other technique?"

"I warped space."
Number one interstellar mobility technique in boot camp, I would imagine. Other than 'hitch a ride with a faster ship'.

And now we see why Hal is an Honour Guard. It's not just Ring skill, any Earth Lantern can manage that. Hal also knows how to build someone up, support them while they recover their footing, inspire their determination... He's a leader as much as a warrior.

They both vanish, hauling the final barrage of macro rounds with them. The Dread Horde's corvettes and frigates have more or less abandoned pursuing us… Not sure what Mongul II is thinking. He must know that Gaart isn't at the dig site any longer… Or does he? Wonder what they're making of the Lanterns' movements? 'They're just flying around out there. I think they're shooting, but there's nothing I can see yet...'

Okay. Aim at the dreadnaught… And fire.

Huh. I don't usually fire at targets this far away. It's actually a little pretty-. Yeah, there we go, gravity shields engaging…

Generate a second singularity projector-. Yes, that's it, start to move-.
Lighting it up, weakening the shields so that...

The dreadnaught shudders as the first stealth missile hits, crumbler warhead striking the ship's plasma screen and viciously disintegrating it! I can't scan the interior of their ship, but an impact like that should blow out the emitters along with destroying the shield bubble.
...The rest of the shots can crack it and damage or mission-kill the ships.

I fire the second singularity projector at the battleship closest to one of the incoming missiles-. Hm, it's got gravity shielding, but it's not quite as effective. I'm seeing vibrations throughout the hull plating-. Ah, they're all activating their point defences, but just as it's hard for us to hit tiny targets in the vastness of space when tiny changes in vector can results in large relative movements, it's even harder to hit small invisible objects with millimetre-wide maser beams.
Broad-focus beams might have been able to hit, but not destroy projectiles, either. And turrets can only traverse so fast...

Another hit.

Escorts change formation, shifting to maximise their sensor and point defence coverage-. Oh, whoops. The capital ships aren't really aiming their point defences, because they're closest to each other than those little microwave beams aren't going to do anything to capital ship armour if a little friendly fire happens, right? But corvettes are a good deal more fragile, and that ship's shields weren't up to the task.
Handy when your weak, point-defence weapons can't scratch your buddies' armour. Tough luck for the little guys, though. Bet they went down cursing their bosses.

The others continue moving into position anyway.

By my estimations, a few macro rounds have missed. We knew that was going to happen, and there's nothing around here that I'd actually mind hitting, so I guess that's-.
Best case, they somehow reach the Source Wall in a few billion years. Worst case, some local planet(oid) out there is gonna suffer their own Chicxulub impact in a few thousand years, barring strong stellar gravity wells.

The dreadnaught takes two further hits, and begins listing.

Promising, but not a victory just yet. Its gravity shields are still working and for all I know its spatial charge weapon is still working. I'm still-.
All you can tell thus far is that its' engines are a little banged up, yeah...

Somewhere off to my right, a spatial charge goes off.

Not 'scanning space sector for replacement', not 'scanning space sector for replacement'…
Really don't wanna hear that in stereo, either.

"Report."

Jordan's face appears for a moment. "Not it. Gaart?"

"I'm o-. I'm okay. Got too focused."
At least his armour is letting him remain mobile. It's slower, but they might assume he's disabled anyway and ignore him.

"When you say 'okay'-?"

"I'm.. not great."
Shaken up and possibly suffering broken bones, I take it, but his armour is likely still unbreached if he's on Ring comms..

"Come to me and-" Three more macro shell impacts, two against the dreadnaught and one against the battleship. The other battleship nearly takes a hit, but manages to deflect it with its gravity shield. "-I'll stick you back together."

"Uh. Right. Coming to you."
Detailed scans made while they were on the surface, of course. OL wouldn't leave the chance to make a medical record for an ally hanging.

"Hey, Paul." Jordan's face looks thoughtful. "Is this how you usually fight the Reach?"

"
No. If this was a Reach fleet, they'd detect the missiles, they wouldn't trap themselves in a gravity well like this, they have higher acceleration and agility, and we'd be knee deep in Scarab Warriors by now." Fortunately, even the Reach can't refit their entire fleet in a couple of years. "On the other hand, their ships aren't quite as durable."
Well, it's confirmed in-story now, but that is a reasonable explanation for it not having too much impact yet.

"The Dread Horde do build their ships to take a pounding."

"
The capital ships, anyway."
Such is their nature. You're not likely to see capital ships made of balsa wood and silk, after all.

"I don't think they built the escorts. I think they just grab whatever they can-"

Another two impacts on the dreadnaught, and it begins to break it two as the remaining internal structure can't handle the torsion.
Literally breaking the keel by twisting it, eh? Ships that big would rely heavy on structural reinforcing fields to prevent that, and those can be overwhelmed.

"-when they raid someplace. And there she goes."

"
Shall I switch target?"
It's a mission-kill, but not a kill-kill. It won't be properly dead until it's reduced to scattered atoms.

"Nah, with a Mongul I wanna be sure."

Several more missiles are turned aside as the battleships try to cover their master.
'Shit, they got the boss' ship! Cover them, he might reward us!'

"Do they have teleporters?"

"Nothing on file. If we didn't hit him, he'll probably take a shuttle to one of the other ships. Or just jump. It's not like vacuum will hurt him."
The lack of manoeuvring systems might hurt, if he's not prepared for an impromptu spacewalk.

Over to my right I spot the glow of Gaart approaching me.

"Gaart's nearly back. Do you need to contact Salaak regarding transport for the prisoners and sending the slaves home?"
Don't count your chickens before they're hatched yet, OL. The fight isn't over yet.

"Already notified him, but he can't do all that much until he knows how many people-"

"Warning! Fear detected!"
And if any of these ships put escape craft away to the planet, that could be a lot more than expected... 😨 Uh-oh, that alert's only sounded if there's a hostile Lantern about.

"-he's dealing with."

Construct shields and gun mantle! And scan!
Ah, crap. That's right...

"Jordan did you-?"

The speck of green marking Gaart's location jerks sideways!
Mongul Junior almost certainly has a Ring.

Well, looks like Mongul Junior is abandoning ship after all. But he's got his own ride, courtesy of the Sinestro Corps. And he's going for the obvious weak link in the team facing him. So, then, one of them is going to have to go save him, and OL is a lot less vulnerable to Fear than Hal is...

I'm starting with 'two [GLs] per Sector' so it's probably about twice that.
Quick google says 3600 sectors, but I don't know why that many specifically. Assuming the universe is the same size as ours, it would work out to 1.17x10^29 light years cubed per sector, or a little under 5,000 trillion light years on the X, Y and Z axes; about 1.39*10^19 (13,900,000,000,000,000,000) habitable worlds per sector. That's a ridiculously high number for two people per sector to staff, even with FTL to make travel times negligible and to let us ignore that the universe is expanding. We know some planets go for centuries without seeing a Green Lantern, but even if the Reach and Apokolips have taken over, say, half that space, it still doesn't make sense. So either there's a lot more sectors, a lot fewer life-bearing planets (maybe due to something related to baseline thaumic levels, or Krona, or any number of other explanations?), or a much smaller universe. Probably all three.

One thing about the anti-construct guns is that LEGION has already responded to them by deploying the Effigies.

Yeah. That would have worked really well, and it's a shame the plot point wasn't mixed before now. Jevick only stated that they could bypass interdiction fields, that modular capabilities are less important in a war, and that Effigies are much easier to mass-produce.

Those things have increasingly turned Orange Lanterns into artillery pieces who need Effigy bodyguards. Fortunately, even the Reach can't refit their entire fleet in a couple of years.

See? Like peanut butter and chocolate, supposedly (I am allergic to peanuts. Not anaphylactic shock, 'just' intestinal bleeding).

It makes sense - the sheer scale of the Reach means that it can't be that everyone has it. Even with FTL communications, sending a blueprint to every factory or every planet conquered is difficult - and while they can mass-manufacture them, not every part of Reach space can do so.

It even makes sense for them to hold off on selling them until they get enough of their fleets outfitted; sure, they can undermine the GLC, and want to, but for now they know they're a non-factor, while the OLC is actively winning against them and rallying their enemies. They're LOSING TERRITORY! That must be responded to with all force first! (Also, Grayven. Not vulnerable to construct breaker attacks, but they're being attacked on two fronts, and they still want to keep expanding and conquering. It's a good reason not to want to provoke the GLC)

No reason risking the Guardians dropping the Treaty if they try to undermine it, at least until the Reach is prepared to fight them. (I'm not sure they would, though. Billions of years old, and the GLC are only a million. Being well-known for keeping their word at all times… well, the longer you can exist, the more useful that is (game theory encourages honesty and cooperation over longer interactions) While dropping it, even with the nonsense the Reach is pulling… after not dropping it when they started using mind control? No, I don't think they'll actually ever do that. They can make a new project, even if they're very attached to their Lantern Corps. And if the worst happens, they need to be able to make peace treaties and have everyone be assured they will be kept)

So for now, all those chapters of Lanterns doing overwhelmingly well… well. For the most part, it means that they're still winning against fleets without anti-construct guns.

Though I wonder about why they kept crushing the Scarabs; they can make guns at will. Is there something about them that clashes with the Scarab's power source or something? You'd think that the-tech-that-makes-any-gun would do perfectly well with just the blueprint, and that it would be easier to transmit it to every drone. Unless… scarabs don't need to physically assimilate guns to use them, right? They're nanotech. They can do the blueprint thing.

Right?

Smaller universe. Zoat made it a galaxy (because of Krona), and there's only 50 or so habitable planets per lantern - or inhabited, at least.

And hopefully they wouldn't be able to form construct nullification rays. Those things have increasingly turned Orange Lanterns into artillery pieces who need Effigy bodyguards.
Meaning that all the Controllers who backed the OLC have suffered massive loss of influence and either abandoned them or are frantically trying to invent a counter.

Side-note: What happened to the giant FTL Freeze Ray technique that Paul used against the Reach (and accidentality Grayven)? I don't recall hi ever using it again despite it being reasonably effective.
