"One of the shuttle pilots was newly transferred into their group. I recognised the techniques he used to rapidly socially integrate with the others. Her injuries?"
"Physically, she's fine. I told them to keep her under observation while we find out whether or not the red ring she used has lasting psychological effects." He nods. "So what happens to the pilot?"
"Batman is speaking with them. Is your report on events ready?" I nod, and flick a mote of orange light towards the nearest terminal. Katar presses the buttons necessary to call up the new files, eyes darting over the summary. "We will need to apply for asylum."
"Technically, you don't. Shayera didn't disobey orders or flee."
"We will need to apply for asylum if our government has decided that it can use us in this fashion."
"I'd need to check, but I'm not sure that you can apply for asylum. An application for indef-. A green card, might be better."
"I will retain a lawyer and ask them."
I nod. "Did you find the red personal lantern?"
"The pilot claimed that there wasn't one. Are they necessary?"
"You mean, do they need to exist for every ring?" He nods, once. "Technically, no, that's just the usual way they're made by the maltusians."
His jaw clenches. "Qward, then."
"Not necessarily, but probably. I'm going to ask Kalmin about it next." I sigh. "So, this was obviously some sort of last hurrah for the High Mor…"
"That is a first for our culture. The previous High Mors were able to retire peacefully."
"What level of retaliation is proportionate?"
"Against who?"
I shrug. "The High Council?"
"They did not authorise it."
"He was High Mor."
"Is he dead?"
"Yes."
"Paul, as High Mor, Krandor Vat could have ordered an attack on your meeting if he wanted to. The Thanagarian military is his to command, and a group forming a military alliance with the intent to limit Thanagarian expansion would be an uncontroversial target. He went himself."
"He wanted to limit the blowback. But is there a reason I'm not seeing to retaliate anyway?"
He regards me carefully.
"Why are you asking me, Paul?"
"I've learned that my decision making could benefit from consulting more widely."
"If you want to prevent war, do not retaliate. If you want military victory, retaliate at once."
"Should I make it clear that if they involve you or Shayera again, I will escalate?"
He exhales through his nose. "Not on our account."
I nod. "Very well. Let me know the results of the interrogation."

Huh. Around which Lanterns and a small number of other people are in meditation. That's… An interesting development-.
As I watch, a Lantern near the front raises his right tertiary leg, ring glowing brightly on their tarsus. Then the glow expands into a cloud-. And then it all leaps into the Lantern's face, their mouth and eyes flaring-.
Xalitan hits the Lantern over the head with a staff, and knocks them out. A couple of Reachian construct lanterns drag the recumbent Lantern away. Xalitan then glances my way, nods politely, and then returns to marching around the ranks of the devoted.
Well, as long as they're taking precautions.
I turn away and fly quickly towards Kalmin's workshop-.
Beneath me, Thaddeus and Daciya are… Smiling at each other as they… Stand on a balcony.
Huh. Good for them. Should make it easier to get a private audience with Kalmin, too.
His workshop doors open at my approach, and the man himself looks up from his forge. "What is it?"
I pull the box containing the antithesis ring off my armour and float it over to him. "What is it indeed?"
He takes the box and open it, then stares at the ring for a moment. "Hm." He then picks up what looks like a calliper and uses it to grip the ring before transferring it to his anvil. "Yes. One nine one. Entirely functional. Do you want a copy of the usage logs?"
"Yes please." He reaches out for a machine I can't readily identify, and clips something onto the ring. "Where did it come from?"
"Qward. No one else knows how to make these."
"Alright then. Who has antithesis rings? I thought that the Green Lantern Corps destroyed all of them, aside from the one that you made."
"We didn't deploy all of them. I was still in the testing phase, and underestimated the strength of the Green Lantern response to my work."
"How many still exist?"
"I don't know. I have two, and I suspect that a few other Weaponers secured one for themselves. Was the user accompanied by another Lantern?"
"Yes."
"What colour?"
"Red."
He doesn't quite smile, but he does look satisfied. "Diataria Lysis. My former apprentice. We were never able to find anyone who could survive using the red ring without irreparable psychological damage. We only made one, so if you have it that should be an end to the matter."
He gestures, and a mote of light flies from the ring and lands on mine. Ah. Yes, that makes sense.
"Thank you, Kalmin. Keep the ring."

Well, that was informative. First, knowing that there's more Antithesis Rings about and that they may be in the hands of those willing to sell them. Secondly, the origin of the Red Ring, which comes with the concern that if Lysis made that one, she could make more. At least the Red Ring deployed was deleted, so it's unlikely we'll another too soon.

Yes, he could probably have assimilated it, but he suspects that Kalmin was the one who made it. And if Kalmin made it, it's probably booby-trapped to high heaven.
The final test for enlightenment is direct exposure to the Ophidian. But being orange, a bunch of Lanterns figured they could just skip the intervening steps. Turns out that's a really bad idea, but there's no way to stop idiots being idiots. So the new deal is that if anyone wants to try exposing themselves like that, they do it when Lantern Xor is there in case something goes wrong. And to be fair, failing is a useful learning experience too.

While I get getting other options before deciding on an action I'd get more than one. The High Council/High Moor didn't do it blind, he said he'd do something and that gets a response. It's not a game where you can cover your eyes and say laughing i didn't see anything while hearing things around you.
