Probably not. I'm tentatively pencilling that in for the final year.Hey Zoat, random question, but will we get any answers regarding new Kara's origin this year?
Probably not. I'm tentatively pencilling that in for the final year.
Well in... [Checks watch] Eight years, you can find out.Doubling down on my bet of her being another SI from earth prime, then
The ring literally removed her reasoning and forced her to act on emotions she normally wouldn't have. With the device that requires her to have the necessary emotion and goal in order to do anything.
Better then Hyathis's subjects who are basically mind controlled by her implanting stuff in them.In the same way the people in downside on Thanagar have rights or a good quality of life?
No, Hyathis apparently actually cares about her people.
Also provide a quote that says they can't leave, or else everyone is just going to think you made it up like you usually do.
Already pointed out how this is wrong, you trying to reinterpret what was said to mean something completely different doesn't change it.Except it isn't.
The people on the planets she took elected to have her rule them. They just didn't tell the fascist government about it.
And if I remember correctly, you first objected to that because the lizarkons, aka the people the Thanagarians treat as slaves or second class cheap laborers at best, don't have legal rights, so they shouldn't be allowed to have a say in their future and just let the Thanagarians keep enslaving them.
True. The ring literally removed her reasoning and forced her to act on emotions she normally wouldn't have
Better then Hyathis's subjects who are basically mind controlled by her implanting stuff in them.
Nope, the only thing you mentioned was that the lizarkons don't have any legal rights, so they couldn't elect Hyathis as their leader.Already pointed out how this is wrong, you trying to reinterpret what was said to mean something completely different doesn't change it.
As I watch, a Lantern near the front raises his right tertiary leg, ring glowing brightly on their tarsus. Then the glow expands into a cloud-. And then it all leaps into the Lantern's face, their mouth and eyes flaring-.
Xalitan hits the Lantern over the head with a staff, and knocks them out. A couple of Reachian construct lanterns drag the recumbent Lantern away. Xalitan then glances my way, nods politely, and then returns to marching around the ranks of the devoted.
Is there a reason he didn't just assimilate it? That would also give him its logs.
Qwardian tech probably has some nasty countermeasures to unauthorized access???Is there a reason he didn't just assimilate it? That would also give him its logs.
'they'
'they're'
Is there a reason he didn't just assimilate it? That would also give him its logs.
Assimilating a ring made by the Guardians is likely to infect yours with the bobbleheads' malware, which your ring, being made on the same principles, already has/had and knows how to deal with.Oh, yeah, he did assimilate John Stewart's old ring, didn't he?
Non-zero chance of creating an anti-orange ring tuned to Revulsion (or what ever emotional state was having Paul destroy Fiat Currently reflexively before he got enlightened). Is there a reason he didn't just assimilate it? That would also give him its logs.
Not how antithesis rings workNon-zero chance of creating an anti-orange ring tuned to Revulsion (or what ever emotional state was having Paul destroy Fiat Currently reflexively before he got enlightened).
Assimilating a ring made by the Guardians is likely to infect yours with the bobbleheads' malware, which your ring, being made on the same principles, already has/had and knows how to deal with.
Assmiliating a ring made on Qward is asking to be infected by new and Interesting malware that you've never seen before and have no idea how to counter.
Is there a reason he didn't just assimilate it? That would also give him its logs.
Good plan. If he's heard about what happened, most likely from Shayera disappearing, then he's going to be cheesed off. Hopefully any anger will be directed at Thanagar High Command, not OL.18th September 2013

I
appear in the Watchtower, close to but out of mace range of Katar.
Yes, very good idea to make sure you're on the same page and no misunderstandings."I-."
"You're alive." He looks me over. "Good. Shayera?"
"In hospital under observation. How much-?"
I take it her blasting out of the Sol system was noticed, then."One of the shuttle pilots was newly transferred into their group. I recognised the techniques he used to rapidly socially integrate with the others. Her injuries?"
"Physically, she's fine. I told them to keep her under observation while we find out whether or not the red ring she used has lasting psychological effects." He nods. "So what happens to the pilot?"
Ah, Batman will definitely get what he wants out of them. What condition they're in afterwards will be down to how quickly he breaks them..."Batman is speaking with them. Is your report on events ready?" I nod, and flick a mote of orange light towards the nearest terminal. Katar presses the buttons necessary to call up the new files, eyes darting over the summary. "We will need to apply for asylum."
"Technically, you don't. Shayera didn't disobey orders or flee."
Surprised there's no full-time lawyer for the League. Besides Arnus."We will need to apply for asylum if our government has decided that it can use us in this fashion."
"I'd need to check, but I'm not sure that you can apply for asylum. An application for indef-. A green card, might be better."
"I will retain a lawyer and ask them."
Well, if it was intended as a one-shot weapon... No, not really.I nod. "Did you find the red personal lantern?"
"The pilot claimed that there wasn't one. Are the necessary?"
To be fair, forcing Lanterns to operate from shared primary recharging points would be inefficient for a police force."You mean, do they need to exist for every ring?" He nods, once. "Technically, no, that's just the usual way their made by the maltusians."
His jaw clenches. "Qward, then."
TO be fair, they were leaving Thanagar in an increasingly dominant place in their region. Stable expansions, casual conquests..."Not necessarily, but probably. I'm going to ask Kalmin about it next." I sigh. "So, this was obviously some sort of last hurrah for the High Mor…"
"That is a first for our culture. The previous High Mors were able to retire peacefully."
That depends on how much they knew about this happening."What level of retaliation is proportionate?"
"Against who?"
I shrug. "The High Council?"
'Was' being the operative word there, OL.
Decisively so, in fact.
Which suggests a political reason behind his decision to go it alone."Paul, as High Mor, Krandor Vat could have ordered an attack on your meeting if he wanted to. The Thanagarian military is his to command, and a group forming a military alliance with the intent to limit Thanagarian expansion would be an uncontroversial target. He went himself."
Well, it is your civilisation, Katar. Perhaps he wants to be sure you won't come at him like Shayera did..."He wanted to limit the blowback. But is there a reason I'm not seeing to retaliate anyway?"
He regards me carefully.
"Why are you asking me, Paul?"
The problem is, neither option is entirely worthwhile. One gives Thanagar a free hand, the other breaks them entirely."I've learned that my decision making could benefit from consulting more widely."
"If you want to prevent war, do not retaliate. If you want military victory, retaliate at once."
That's be like baiting them into attacking the Hawks."Should I make it clear that if they involve you or Shayera again, I will escalate?"
He exhales through his nose. "Not on our account."
Time to ask Kalmin a few questions about Qwardian Rings and the origin thereof...I nod. "Very well. Let me know the results of the interrogation."
"Of course."
I raise my right hand to my forehead
Lanterns training their mental fortitude? Interesting.and
appear on Maltus a short distance from the Central Power Battery…
Huh. Around which Lanterns and a small number of other people are in meditation. That's… An interesting development-.
Huh. Folks trying to push for Enlightenment, I wonder? Or those struggling to resist the 'Full Larfleeze'.As I watch, a Lantern near the front raises his right tertiary leg, ring glowing brightly on their tarsus.
Right, back to business.Well, as long as they're taking precautions.
I turn away and fly quickly towards Kalmin's workshop-.
Daaaw. Nice to see that's working out.Beneath me, Thaddeus and Daciya are… Smiling at each other as they… Stand on a balcony.
Huh. Good for them. Should make it easier to get a private audience with Kalmin, too.
Pity he couldn't take the Red Ring intact but it was too dangerous. His workshop doors open at my approach, and the man himself looks up from his forge. "What is it?"
I pull the box containing the antithesis ring off my armour and float it over to him. "What is it indeed?"
Assuming they haven't been doctored, it might give him some clue as to where the former High Mor received it at least. He takes the box and open it, then stares at the ring for a moment. "Hm." He then picks up what looks like a calliper and uses it to grip the ring before transferring it to his anvil. "Yes. One nine one. Entirely functional. Do you want a copy of the usage logs?"
"Yes please." He reaches out for a machine I can't readily identify, and clips something onto the ring. "Where did it come from?"
As if. Besides, what was made once can be made again. Albeit at lower quality depending on the crafter."Qward. No one else knows how to make these."
"Alright then. Who has antithesis rings? I thought that the Green Lantern Corps destroyed all of them, aside from the one that you made."
A very important question."We didn't deploy all of them. I was still in the testing phase, and underestimated the strength of the Green Lantern response to my work."
"How many still exist?"
Oh, great. At least the Antithesis Rings are destructive to their users, so anyone foolish enough to put them in is doomed."I don't know. I have two, and I suspect that a few other Weaponers secured one for themselves. Was the user accompanied by another Lantern?"
"Yes."
Oh, his reaction to this will be interesting.
So basically confirmed that she's been working on them. And if she knows how to make them, then she can make more. Albeit with difficulty. He doesn't quite smile, but he does look satisfied. "Diataria Lysis. My former apprentice. We were never able to find anyone who could survive using the red ring without irreparable psychological damage. We only made one, so if you have it that should be an end to the matter."
Details of the logs, I see.He gestures, and a mote of light flies from the ring and lands on mine. Ah. Yes, that makes sense.
"Thank you, Kalmin. Keep the ring."
Because he had the guy who made it right there. Is there a reason he didn't just assimilate it? That would also give him its logs.
The final test for enlightenment is direct exposure to the Ophidian. But being orange, a bunch of Lanterns figured they could just skip the intervening steps. Turns out that's a really bad idea, but there's no way to stop idiots being idiots. So the new deal is that if anyone wants to try exposing themselves like that, they do it when Lantern Xor is there in case something goes wrong. And to be fair, failing is a useful learning experience too.
Thank you, corrected.
"Physically, she's fine. I told them to keep her under observation while we find out whether or not the red ring she used has lasting psychological effects.
That is for the injured party to decide. Either ask the surviving delegates who were being shot at or decide yourself.
Clarification: He has learned that his own decision making can lead to suboptimal outcomes. As yet he does not have significant evidence to suggest consulting more widely will lead to better ones."I've learned that my decision making could benefit from consulting more widely."
The Zamarons and their lanterns will be thrilled to learn that more mad scientists are discovering the power of love.Beneath me, Thaddeus and Daciya are… Smiling at each other as they… Stand on a balcony.
Why? If they made one then they can make more.We only made one, so if you have it that should be an end to the matter."
Though they may reconsider when they start making superweapons as a couple. The Zamarons and their lanterns will be thrilled to learn that more mad scientists are discovering the power of love

'I will not attempt to consume an energy field larger than my head.' 22. No matter how tempted I am with the prospect of unlimited power, I will not consume any energy field bigger than my head.'I will not attempt to consume an energy field larger than my head.' (from the Evil Overlord list, though the quote is probably incomplete)
So an energy field larger than my head, with the prospect of limited power, is fine then?22. No matter how tempted I am with the prospect of unlimited power, I will not consume any energy field bigger than my head.
It's basic diplomacy. Kalmin made it, could probably make more, and already has one. Taking it is pointless as the SI would never use it. Destroying it right in front of his might alienate him. Can't help but wonder if that was a mistake... or foreshadowing.
Do you have the threadMark for it? I would appreciate it very much.I still occasionally go back for the Kalmin Hopecore section of this story, so fucking good.
