I really dislike the stories/scripts that write "bargaining" like both sides moving towards a middle ground, that's so naive and stupid

It ought to be more like one side has the leverage, so it's like, they stick to it, and the other side moves up until reaching threshold

IMO it's because having leverage and using leverage are two different things; having leverage and not using it shows how magnanimous a person is and how they're "willing to compromise" is held as a Good, while having leverage and using it is being a "greedy merchant" or something and is held as a Bad.

Fish, those ideals go back a long way before Europe was anything but a backwater. In much of Europe for much of history, your second scenario ends with the exploiter getting killed by an angry mob (jury trials are a codification of this process). It turns out that a culture of "murdering exploiters is okay" means that exploitation isn't actually a smart thing to do unless you are Superman.

It seems like a major flaw in these "multiverse chat room" type stories is that the author keeps adding new characters, which means less time to the old characters, and part of this is because they have no creativity, so after the "fix fic" aspect on each of the original characters, the authors don't know how to write them
