Terror Nova

19th November 1995
05:20 GMT

I drop down into the… Ritual space, inside D-Point. Dead youma have been raised as… Zombies?

"Why zombies?"
Red chapter title for Paragon, but not labeled as supplementary? That suggests some interesting things.

Does the name mean anything to you, or other DC experts? "Terror" doesn't necessarily mean the imprisoned Terror Twins or the local Sinestro. "Nova" could be important.
As for today's update… I'm a bit surprised Tuxedo Mask had a counterpart. It'd be interesting if memories and perspective of the present identity are what matter for the upcoming rescue mission. That could make the bitter pill of fading away easier to swallow.

"I'm very glad that you're safe."

She.. actually hugs me back, without hesitating. Huh. Thought that would be harder.

"You're surprised."
Mazikeen glances at me, a faint smile on her lips.
Very happy to see Mazikeen returning his affections. Brought a smile to my face. Though I am slightly put out that right as she returns we will be having an episode where Oh El's party will presumably not be the focus. Unless the red title and supplementary are somehow total misdirects, and the episode is going to be from Mazikeen's perspective rather than Grayven's.
"Compared to most of the Lord of Hell, you have an excellent reputation."
'Lords'
"I used to be the personal assistant of the one who oversaw things. Theses days I mostly look to my own interests. Cultivating assets, increasing my own knowledge and power and encouraging those who think I should be their pawn to look elsewhere."
'These'
"But not mine." A armoured man of oriental extraction appears from thin air, sword in hand. "Who are you, skeleton?"
'An'
"You believe that Queen Serenity murdered… No. I had no love for her, but she would not do something so horrific."

"I have a suspicious mind, and all of my sources either don't remember, didn't see everything, have a good reason to lie or all three."

"And… Will his memories return?"
Took me a minute to get it, but of course it's referring to the suppression of the guy's memories as murder. Not certain I agree with that definition of identity, but it is a reasonable one.
A desolate wasteland of grey sand greets us.
Anyone got an idea of which fictional Hell this is? A grey sandy (ashy?) wasteland isn't very distinctive, but it isn't ubiquitous.

"Lich and nethermancer, actually. A skeleton would not be able to hold a conversation." He pauses for a moment, then folds his left arm across his chest and makes a shallow bow. "Alejandro Dela Segadora of the Bull Duchy of the Holy… Oh, I forget what dynasty it was. The Holy Whatever Empire. Also called The Shadow of Death. The Netherlord. The Great Lich. Master of the Order of the Void." He shrugs. "But please, call me Sandro."
Titles do tend to accumulate over the centuries.

"Apparently, Queen Serenity did something with the Silver Crystal. I'm trying to be charitable to a dead woman, but it honestly sounds pretty messed up."
Given the initial results of your various resurrectionary efforts I would say you are being very uncharitable. She had one shot to jerry-rigging a mass resurrection with no practice or preparation.

"Or you could take part in one last epic quest with us." I turn to Sandro. "Can you open the portal?"
And you want him along… why, exactly? You have no reason to trust him and no reason to think he would be helpful. Plus you are obligated to bring him back, or at least offer the option.

My best guess is Hueco Mundo, from Bleach

An afterlife that isn't hell or heaven? Yeah is plausible, but why would Blaze be thrown there? Or why would maki have a connection to Hueco Mundo?

Then again if the connection is that they are going to be thrown into different Anime lands because Maki and Blaze are closet weebs then Bleach makes as much sense as Sailor Moon and there Paul isn't so drastically outmatched... Ok maybe he is speed wise because Sonido is combat teleportation with the reaction times to match, OG Paul can do the combat tp, but his reaction times are way below what is needed to sustain combat.

Bleach is an interesting idea. The SI may or may not be able to see most of the plot relevant characters. I guess quincies and fullbringers? But normal humans can't see things like shinigami or hollows. Anyway, whatever local variant got sent there would be utterly screwed, not only definitely not being able to see anything, but also not having a soul, and thus just being dead as soon as plot started happening. I guess there are a couple people who could have created an artificial soul for him, but would they have had a reason to?

Red title. No Renegade!OL in sight. Just Paragon!OL... is it finally time? Will we finally see the crossover between Paragon and Renegade that we've been promised for 12 years?!

Tune in tomorrow for the next installment of With This Ring!

To be fair, he has no idea who they are, and they haven't done anything bad to him specifically, so why would he judge them based on their race alone?
He doesn't need to judge them based on race alone. He can judge by both species and what they admitted to. A demon who worked for the guy in charge of Hell, a guy who at least has a better reputation than a Lord of Hell (the bar is on the floor), and an ancient powerful Lich wouldn't inspire the best confidence in terms of teammates of an adventuring party for Mr. Earthman here, most likely.

He holds the Golden Crystal, the moment he leaves the universe everyone on Earth outside of the Sailor Scouts should drop over dead.
That's probably bad. Does he know that, or are our intrepid heroes just gambling the lives of everyone based on his answer?

Any specific reason why sharing info/data from one ring to another isn't done? Both have orange rings I'd think exchanging the complete data base or close to one would be a thing.
Pretty sure our Paul can make some adjustments so the rings can store information again or even have a search function installed…

Honestly, that seems well within Urahara's capabilities, and he's likely to be found just kind of hanging around in plot-town larping as a merchant? Without a soul, there's no particular reason why something like a Gikon wouldn't work on Paul, and that's an off-the-shelf product Urahara stocks. All that's needed is a slight modification such that the injected artificial soul doesn't try to override Paul's control over his own body or overwrite his personality with its own, which sounds considerably easier than the standard Mod Soul package that's already a known tech in the series. Despite his pretense, Urahara is definitely paying enough attention to notice if Paul does anything significant, and a brief demo of Lantern abilities would likely make that modest investment worthwhile on Urahara's part.

If they are in Bleach, then this raises some interesting questions. Namely, can Paul's soul get hollowfied or become a shinigami, even if it's artificial and made of orange light?

I mean, if we take the anime continuity into account, there's at least three examples of artificial people becoming shinigami. So logically, there's nothing stopping someone with an artificial soul from becoming one.

Doubt it's a dc setting. I'm gonna guess silent hill

Seems unlikely.

Mr Zoat would have to rewrite the entire way the setting works for Orange Lantern to even be able to effect any of the creatures living there.
Not really.

He has dealt with similar creatures in the past and has been generally successful.

If he encounters any Arrancar or Aizen then he may have a problem on his hands, but he's still a highly experienced and powerful combatant, so there is a chance he can win.

If a bunch of teenagers have a generally good record against them then Paul sure as hell does.

Not to mention that he has Mazikeen and Sandro with him. Two highly experienced and powerful people in their own right.

And by old times, I mean that one time when Paul did a parody of the song with Robin, Aqualad, Miss Martian, Kid Flash and Superboy'

That was good times. Though at this point Paul has proven more bard than cleric. Does everything, improves everyone around him, not specialized. He's still way overleveled, though.

Alejandro Dela Segadora of the Bull Duchy of the Holy… Oh, I forget what dynasty it was. The Holy Whatever Empire. Also called The Shadow of Death. The Netherlord. The Great Lich. Master of the Order of the Void." He shrugs. "But please, call me Sandro."

Titles do tend to accumulate over the centuries.

At least he's showing restraint about it. Unlike a certain Great King, the Imperishable, Khemrikhara, The Great King of Nehekhara, King of Kings, Opener of the Way, Wielder of the Divine Flame, Punisher of Nomads, The Great Unifier, Commander of the Golden Legion, Sacred of Appearance, Bringer of Light, Father of Hawks, Builder of Cities, Protector of the Two Worlds, Keeper of the Hours, Chosen of Ptra, High Steward of the Horizon, Sailor of the Great Vitae, Sentinel of the Two Realms, The Undisputed, Begetter of the Begat, Scourge of the Faithless, Carrion-feeder, First of the Charnel Valley, Rider of the Sacred Chariot, Vanquisher of Vermin, Champion of the Death Arena, Mighty Lion of the Infinite Desert, Emperor of the Shifting Sands, He Who Holds The Sceptre, Great Hawk Of The Heavens, Arch-Sultan of Atalan, Waker of the Hierotitan, Monarch of the Sky, Majestic Emperor of the Shifting Sands, Champion of the Desert Gods, Breaker of the Ogre Clans, Builder of the Great Pyramid, Terror of the Living, Master of the Never-Ending Horizon, Master of the Necropolises, Taker of Souls, Tyrant to the Foolish, Bearer of Ptra's Holy Blade, Scion of Usirian, Scion of Nehek, The Great, Chaser of Nightmares, Keeper of the Royal Herat, Founder of the Mortuary Cult, Banisher of the Grand Hierophant, High Lord Admiral of the Deathfleets, Guardian of the Charnal Pass, Tamer of the Liche King, Unliving Jackal Lord, Dismisser of the Warrior Queen, Charioteer of the Gods, He Who Does Not Serve, Slayer off Reddittras, Scarab Purger, Favoured of Usirian, Player of the Great Game, Liberator of Life, Lord Sand, Wrangler of Scorpions, Emperor of the Dunes, Eternal Sovereign of Khemri's Legions, Seneschal of the Great Sandy Desert, Curserer of the Living, Regent of the Eastern Mountains, Warden of the Eternal Necropolis, Herald of all Heralds, Caller of the Bitter Wind, God-Tamer, Master of the Mortis River, Guardian of the Dead, Great Keeper of the Obelisks, Deacon of the Ash River, Belated of Wakers, General of the Mighty Frame, Summoner of Sandstorms, Master of all Necrotects, Prince of Dust, Tyrant of Araby, Purger of the Greenskin Breathers, Killer of the False God's Champions, Tyrant of the Gold Dunes, Golden Bone Lord, Avenger of the Dead, Carrion Master, Eternal Warden of Nehek's Lands, Breaker of Djaf's Bonds, etc., etc.

Bleach is a more unique setting in that it's explicit that the only thing that can effect Hollow's are spirit particles.

Meaning Zoat would have to re-write that for anybody to be effective.

It's not really that big of rewrite.

Spirit particles are basically the main form of exotic energy in the setting, but that doesn't negate Orange Light or magic.

Heck, Zoat wouldn't even be the first author that's done something like that.

There are a lot of crossovers where characters from other settings affect each other using their native powers.

Actually it does, Bleach is a universe whose laws of reality were literally re-written by a near omnipotent godlike being.

Most of which don't involve settings with beings are explicitly immune to everything but X.

Not sure the Soul King factored in an Orange Lantern, an ancient powerful demon from another universe and a lich from another universe when he was writing the rules.

It's a crossover.

Lots of crossovers do things that normally wouldn't happen or wouldn't be possible in the setting for the simple fact that it's necessary for the story to happen.

If you threw someone into a universes where they couldn't do anything then they'd just die, so you have to let them be able to influence the setting even if the powers they have aren't from the setting.

It's a fairly basic thing about crossover fiction.

The mechanics of the setting don't matter as much as the actual plot, characters and story.

Thank you, corrected.

Oh, it's not Hell. It's Phobos.

I've never watched Bleach. Not that that would necessary stop me, but I don't know anything about it beyond 'it exists'. And I don't really want a third flavour of ardent fans after me.

It would depend on the exact state of the system at the time, but using magic to ensure that some time in the future some random people would have their minds overwritten isn't a good thing.
And you want him along… why, exactly? You have no reason to trust him and no reason to think he would be helpful. Plus you are obligated to bring him back, or at least offer the option.
The man essentially has a terminal illness, and fought with the Heavenly Kings. It's reasonable to believe that he can hold up his end in a fight, and reasonable to offer him something to take his mind off it.

Two reasons. Main SI is concerned about SIV's mental stability, and doesn't want to give him things that could make things worse for the people on that Earth. The other is that he knows perfectly well that other versions of him don't like asking for help.
No. He has a chainsaw, if that's any good?
Doubt it's a dc setting. I'm gonna guess Silent Hill
Never played it.

Orange Lantern really needs to stop just assuming he knows how everything works without researching it...
