Dungeon Crawler Quest(Original Fantasy)

You think for a moment, honestly you don't need any of these items… "I'll just take the Amrita," you say say after thinking for a moment. "Maya, since you can only use one accessory, why don't you trade Sera the Warg cloak? She's the only one who doesn't have a better defensive item yet."

Maya thinks it over for a moment, "I guess that's not a problem, I did much better today than I expected anyway. Seraphine, are the boots and cloak fine for you?"

"Um… yes, I can only wear one though…" Seraphine responds.

"You can switch, since the boots are only good if you're in an underground dungeon right now, you can wear the cloak any time we're above ground," you cut in.

Seraphine stares at you for a moment and nods, "T-thank you, Mister Al… I didn't think of that."

The four of you set off for town once the loot is divided up, you're feeling pretty good about today. Even if you're kinda worried about your reception at home when you get back to town… Ah, maybe you could bring Seraphine along, Uncle and Mom always got on you for not having enough friends, so showing that you made one today might work, right?

"Hey, Sera, do you wanna come home with me tonight?" You ask.

Idle conversation cuts off, Anshelm looks to have almost tripped due to how quickly he turned to look at you, and Maya is working herself up into those creepy giggles again.Seraphine's reaction is weird though, she suddenly went all red in the face and froze up staring at you.

"Ufufu… so bold Al, I didn't think you had it in you," Maya manages to say between giggles.

"What?" You respond blankly, not getting why it's such a big deal, "We'd be going to the Inn afterword anyway, I just wanted some company while I chat with my family, they're probably kinda grumpy since I left without saying anything this morning."

Maya frowns and shakes her head, "Al, be more careful how you say things then."

You glance over at Seraphine whose gone back to more normal coloring, and looks a weird mix between disappointed and relieved…. People are weird sometimes. "I… um… I wouldn't mind I suppose."

"Great," You reply cheerfully, "You're a life saver Sera."

Your group lapses into more normal chatting, until you reach the city near sunfall, it's a good thing you didn't take much longer or you might have been caught outside… you're pretty tough, but that would probably be hard to live through.

Unfortunately as you begin heading up the street to the Inn, you run into someone who apparently recognizes… someone in your group going by the purposeful way they walk up to you.

Cyrille
Paladin C
22

It's easy enough to see he has his eye on Seraphine, you take a moment to study the guy as he approaches. Blond hair, square jaw… looks like the cover of one of those trashy romance novels, real nice shiny silver plate armor though, and way taller than any of you… something that seems to have Anshelm drawing himself up as it becomes clear to the others that he's looking at your group.

You glance over at Seraphine, she's looking kinda resigned. Sir shinypants speaks up once he's within a few steps of your group. "Miss Seraphine, please do not tell me you spent the day outside with… these," you bristle at his dismissive tone, and so does Anshelm. Maya is just regarding him with narrowed eyes though… she isn't smiling though.

"I did just that." Seraphine speaks up, cutting into the awkward silence. "We were very successful today. I-I told you, and I told Father that I could do this on my own," huh, Sera was almost assertive there, even if she stumbled once or twice.

"There is no reason for you to put yourself in danger going out with others of such low level, Miss Seraphine. I am perfectly capable of letting you accrue experience on in-town missions. Please do not be stubborn about this. Your Father wishes only for your safety," Asshole the knight tries, putting on a more conciliatory tone. Condescending jerk.

"I-I refuse. You are dismissed Cyrille. I can do this on my own." Seraphine repeats stubbornly, "I'll tell father that myself if I have to. I am branded, it is my duty just as much as any other to see dungeons cleared."

"Yeah Sera is pretty good at this, we took out two bonus bosses today," You cut in, drawing a look of disdain from the Paladin.

"My, someone is mad their easy paycheck escaped, how terrible for you," Maya adds, not sounding sorry at all. What does she mean… wait, this guy must have been hired by Sera's folks to keep her from doing anything risky…

"This is no business of yours," He responds curtly, "If you truly mean that Miss Seraphine, you will have to inform your father yourself. I will not abandon a contract without word from my primary employer. I will simply have to keep a closer eye on you otherwise."

You scowl at the tall man and step closer to Sera's side, what an asshole. Seraphine speaks up again, after glancing over at you. "I-if I have to I have to. I will go with you if only for that," Seraphine turns to look at you while Cyrille blinks in surprise, he clearly wasn't expecting her to be cool with confronting her dad. "Mister Al, I'm sorry but I have some personal business to take care of. I will have to take up your invitation another night," She pauses, fidgeting slightly, as she nods to Maya and Anshelm as well, "Miss Maya, Mister Anshelm. Today was very nice. Thank you for your help. I hope we can group again sometime."

By now Cyrille has recovered his composure… which he is mostly using to give the three of you the stink eye, "Very well Miss Seraphine, I am sure your Father will talk you out of this foolishness. Shall we go then?"

"We shall," Seraphine bobs her head in a slight bow to all of you, "Farewell everyone. Thank you again."

"Yeah, I'll see you later Sera," you kinda enjoy the way the Paladin's eyebrow twitches every time you call her that.

Maya and Anshelm say their goodbyes as well and you watch Seraphine leave with Sir shinypants. "What an ass," You say flatly when they are out of hearing.

"Tch who does he think he is looking down on us," Anshelm grumbles in agreement, "Let me get a week or two of leveling in, and I'd show that guy."

"Now, now boys," Maya responds cheerfully, her normal smile back in place, "No reason to carry on, Seraphine looks like she knew what she was doing… my I suppose beating two tough enemies like that must have given her quite a confidence boost. Good thing, right Al?"

"Hmm… yeah, right," you say absently. Wait, crap, now you have to go face the music alone!

Maya pats you on the shoulder, as if she can tell what you're thinking. "Some things are best faced on your own Al, don't tell me you can't even match Seraphine's confidence."

"Of course I can," you grumble. Your group splits again after that. With Maya and Anshelm heading to the merchant quarter so Anshelm can offload his starter gear, no reason to hold on to that after all, and you heading off to home.

It's quite a walk, but it goes a lot faster than it did this morning, with how much your endurance has been improved. You are soon among the twisty streets of the arcane district again. Finding your way home is second nature, even if you find yourself hesitating at the door of the small house wedged into the space between a pair of alchemical labs, you easily ignore the weird way space goes bendy in the alleyways on either side, and knock on the door.

It takes a few minutes, but soon enough you can hear Uncle's shuffling gait approaching. The door opens, revealing your Uncle in all his crusty glory. He's only a little taller than you, and half bald already, though you aren't sure that's because of a chemical burn on his scalp or age. He looks down at you with his one good eye, and it takes a moment for recognition to dawn. You guess you do look pretty different from when you left.

You are about to greet him when you are cut off by a sudden pain in your foot… did he… did he just jab his cane into your toes! "Ow… what the hell Uncle!" You yell, stepping back before he can do it again. "I know I left without saying anything, but you don't gotta be a jerk!"

"Of course I have to, you worried your Mother and I sick, you careless girl," He grumbles, he turns around awkwardly, shuffling on his cheap wooden prosthetic to make room for you to enter. "Come on in then, since you've deigned to come home."

You enter your narrow home grumbling honestly, it was more the surprise than anything else that made you react like that, Uncle's little jabs don't really hurt anymore. You glance around, no sign of Mom in the little front room that makes up most of your home. "Don't know what the big deal is, you knew where I was going, and Mom isn't even here."

"She took the morning off, she's working late to make up for it," He grunts and your face falls a little. Oh… well crap. "She left you a note on the table. Give it a read, then talk to me, my soup's getting cold."

Uncle shuffles off to the kitchen and you head to the table, where a small parchment note sits on top of a little wooden box. You glance curiously at the container and unfold the note to read.

Alice,

I should have known you wouldn't be able to wait. I wish you had, but I understand, there is so much about dungeons and the branded we don't understand… and this is the perfect opportunity for you to learn. Knowledge unshared is knowledge soon lost though… so try to come home sometimes and tell us about everything. I know you'll do well. Just don't rush off alone! I managed to pull some strings at the lab and buy you one of the early copies of a new skill crystal that's been in the works. Consider it an apology for missed birthdays… but you don't really need tuition for the academy anymore do you? Either way, use it well.

Love, Mom.

Hmph… maybe can try to stop in now and then. You guess it can't hurt. You reach down to open up the box and see just what she got you, probably….

Divine Eye

The Combination of all Scan Skills. At lowest level allows the user to see the health, SP, and Level of Enemies, as well as additional dungeon information and the value of [common] items.

Oh, oh.... This is expensive, like four or five more zeroes than you have in your pocket expensive. You guess that makes sense if she blew her savings on this. You gingerly reach out and activate the Skill crystal. It flares and disappears and you feel the new skill being equipped to your remaining passive slot.

You don't have any enemies to look at, so you glance over your dungeon list… looks like only two lines added for now. The number of rooms in each dungeon and the minimum recommended party size. Looks like you went pretty overkill on the Glade.

You slide into a chair and spend some time telling Uncle about your day. Stupid grumpy old man only barely praises you though, and even then it's mostly for not rushing off alone like he half expected you too. You manage to pull a good job by the end though, so you'll call that a win.

Eventually you return to the Inn to eat dinner and rest, the food is surprisingly good at the Goblin, and it only costs five gilder for the night. Apparently as long as you pay for the day you can leave your stuff in the room and it will keep… only up to ten items though, some weird mystic mechanic of the Inn's rank.

So What to do today?

[]Do some shopping?yes/no

Well regardless of any shopping, do you want to

[]Do some missions today
[]More Dungeons!
-[]Seek out your old group
-[]Try to get with some new people
-[]Do a little of both,(Specify which already known members you want)
-[]Nah you can totally Solo a dungeon now, you're level 2!

((Kind of an intermediate update, I'll probably do the next one pretty quick to let you actually select items and/or new party members))

Kinda want to try to solo goblin glade, but if a bonus pops we're probably done for. Also worth checking up with Seraphine.

I'd like to level up divine eye before going sell crazy, but what we have is probably not that great valuewise in the long run anyway.

[X]Do some shopping
-[X] Maybe grab an amrita or two and see what's around for what cost relative to its value?

Before doing anything:
[X] Seek out your old group

[X] Do some shopping:
- [X] Buy 2 Amritas or better SP recovery items
- [X] Check prices on items equippable for Elementalist
-- [X] Body: Better robes and such
-- [X] Hand/Shield: Items that can be equipped along with a staff
- [X] Sell your starter gears like your Crude Staff and including your Common Robe if there is a better and affordable Body item

[X] Do some missions today (or at least check the information about them)
Because Alice hasn't, and it rounds up the Branded options. Later on the afternoon, we might go for a Dungeon.

Dat divine Eye. Our mom is the best. We should make a point to visit her occasionally.

I'm going to say 4 Amiritas if we are planning on going to Crystal Lake. The dungeon is tougher then the other two and only us taking it with our old group makes it a good idea. We did check prices for new equipment when we went shopping the first time, though nothing exact.

Similarly the shop selling weapons and armor, the very cheapest cost a few hundred gilder. It looks like you'll have to settle for your starting gear until you've made some money.

Note on Inventory: Multiple items of similar nature do not stack. Thus, 4 extra Amritas will take 4 spaces.

Inventory Tutorial said:
Loot and You

As a starting adventurer you lack many of the accumulated niceties that allow your more experienced kin to lug a dragons entire hoard in one go.

Unenhanced your inventory can contain items equal to three times your strength. In your case this number is nine. This does not include equipped items though.

You may carry up to twice your inventory in times of need, but this causes the [slowed] status which cannot be cured until the burden is reduced. Multiples of the same item take up multiple slots, so two potions take two of your current nine slots.

You cannot carry more than nine of the same consumable no matter how large your inventory is.

Sad, but that means we have to check for better recovery items sooner or later.
Perhaps later...

Wait, is Goblin Pouch an Accessory? Dang, Sera has 3 Accessories then.

Nope, bag slots are a separate thing from accessories and jewelry.

Oh, phew.

I keep forgetting stuffs like that...

While I understand what you mean. I think the dungeon you guys are thinking of is Crystal Lake. Not sure if that makes a difference to anyone.

Indeed. What i want to do today is probably try to go Crystal lake as a group, with our old group, and then go to the goblin glad and divide our group (either seraphine/ashelm and Maya/AL, or Seraphine/Al and Maya/Anshelm, more likely), and each do the dungeon separately for sweet, sweet XP.

Anshelm actually could probably solo the starter Glade himself. He replaced every bit of his starter gear and has an uncommon helmet. The only thing that might worry him is the Goblin Boss who has that stun attack.

Fuck I cracked a rib laughing. I so wasn't expecting that.

Of course. Charisma should just be a dump skill... And I'd say our Perception is high enough for anything we might need now, but it might interact with our new skill in some way. We should be sure to visit Mom every day when we can now.

Can we at least see the Tutorial regarding non-Dungeon missions even if the votes don't pick them?

Sure I can throw that up after the next update.

Of course. Charisma should just be a dump skill... And I'd say our Perception is high enough for anything we might need now, but it might interact with our new skill in some way. We should be sure to visit Mom every day when we can now.

Our Perception should be a main stat. Because it does more than be 'we might need' It nets us more and better gear, it nets us more encounters with creatures that level us much faster. Perception is a POWERFUL skill to have if you're going to be grouping with people often. And it's kinda clear that GEAR and SKILLS make the difference here.

Yeah. I wonder if we could get any actual training on how to fight though... You know, like how to properly whack something with our staff, or how to dodge (most important). Because stats aren't quite everything here, just a good portion of it.

That is covered in the staves skill I think.

I'm not so sure. It might change how much damage we do when we hit something, but I'm not sure if it actually gives us the skill to properly use staves, you know? But then again it might, after all raising our Will actually changed what kind of person we are, how much real will we have.

Just try beaning someone with our staff. Trial through bonks.

Staves does affect your ability to whack things, its just there's not really any reason for Al to do that if she has any other action left, since you know... wizard.

I thought that there is a severe lack of options to increase base stats?
Not that there isn't any, but that it is a limited list?

You wake up in the morning feeling completely refreshed. It's a bit weird, the bed is nothing special comfort wise, but you feel like you've just had the best sleep ever. You glance over at your health and SP readout, and sure enough you're completely full. Heck, you're even totally clean, you kinda expected to have to bathe after the sweat you worked up yesterday, but you may as well have just stepped out of one. Being branded has its advantages you guess. Your hair is still a bird's nest for some reason though, go figure, guess you should work on that. Once your morning rituals are done and you've gotten dressed and equipped, you head downstairs, it's still ridiculously early, and there aren't many people in the common room downstairs. You nod to the Innkeeper, and were about to pass him by on the way out to the Inn, when he calls out to you.

"I have a message for a 'Mister Al'? I believe that would be you," his voice carries pretty well for how soft spoken he is, must be part of working the bar.

In any case you turn to look at the pretty boy Innkeeper, "Yeah that's me. What's the message about?" you wander over to the bar so neither of you have to yell.

"A 'Miss Seraphine' wished to inform you that she wouldn't be able to join you today. She apologizes and asks for your consideration. She should be free tomorrow though." He repeats easily, rattling off the message seemingly from memory.

You frown, well crap, you hoped to get the whole group together again today, looks like that's gonna be a bust. "Right, thanks Adel. Did she say why she wouldn't be able to make it?"

You shakes his head, "She just mentioned needing to complete some family business before she would be free to join you. She wasn't specific in this I'm afraid."

"Damn," you grumble, "Thanks anyway, if you see Maya or Anshelm before I get back, can you let them know to wait for me, I need to do a little shopping."

"Certainly," the Innkeeper says, "Have a good trip."

You take your leave and once again head to the shopping district. You consider just outright selling your old staff, but really you aren't sure if you should bother yet. For now you go to the general goods store to pick up a couple amritas. That's thirty Gilder, you look through the stock with a new eye, noting which items are marked up from the value your Eye gives them. Common stuff is all surprising close to the mark though. The elemental vials are five over their value, and so are the Paralysis Salves maybe because one of the easy dungeons in the area carries the danger? Either way it costs twenty gilder, and you doubt you can bargain the shopkeeper down with your lacking charisma. There are also Ether,s the better SP restore item, for fifty five, which is on value, and Panacea, some kind of pill that will cure any one status, costs a whole hundred gilder though, marked up by ten from its value.

[]Buy or sell anything specific?

Potion 10
Amrita 15
Elemental Vial 20(15)
Antidote 10
Burn Salve 15
Paralysis Salve 20(15)
Hi-Potion 50 (Heals for sixty)
Ether 55 (Restores forty SP)
Panacea 100(90)
Escape Orb 200

Once you're done in the item shop you stop by the places selling weapons and armor, honestly the selection isn't great. It's all common and a couple uncommon things. The cheapest item you could use that's better than your robes is two hundred gilder for [Traveler's Robe] which would be a defense boost but not really worth it, especially since the value you see on it is only one hundred. You kinda suspect places like this cater to branded from wealthy families like Sera who can afford the mark up for only slightly better gear. On the way out you receive a notice from the Mystic Script about Missions…. You guess maybe you could do that today, but dungeons seem way more fun. You'll think about it later.

With your shopping done you return to the Inn and find Anshelm and Maya already at a table, you head on over, and Maya waves when she sees you. "Hey Al, Sleep well?"

Anshelm nods to you as you sit down, "Yeah, really well," you respond.

"Never better right?" the short warrior adds lazily.

"Inns are pretty good for that. One of the perks for being branded," Maya muses, "Did Seraphine leave a message for you as well?"

"Yeah," it sucks, but you guess she'll be around tomorrow, so she must be doing okay.

Maya pats you on the shoulder, "There, there. We can bring her along tomorrow Al. Do we just want to go out by ourselves today? We can probably handle either of the dungeons we've already done."

"I kinda want to try something harder." Anshelm adds. Food comes to the table soon after, you guess they must have ordered for three.

"I was actually thinking to try Crystal Lake," You note as you dig in, the omelet is pretty good.

"Mm, we could," Maya says, "There are a lot of poisonous enemies there, we might want to get a healer to keep our costs down."

You cast a glance over the common room, its filled up a bit. You notice the healer from yesterday, Jack, sitting at a table with Rolf, they seem to have picked up a sword warrior, a serious looking lady with red hair, and some pretty nice looking chain armor, looks like a level four. Name says Rose, looks like Jack picked up a level and some new armor yesterday too.

There's a pair of guys who are both level two as well. The first one is a bow hunter with short sandy blonde hair, name shows as Kirk. You have to say you like the way the leather armor molds to the guys ass. At least there's some eye candy for women too. In any case the other guy… oh hi, Alex. Great, you had no idea he got branded as well. Jackass, it took your eyebrows two months to grow back after he tossed a newt into that potion you were working on. Looks like he went with lightning, fitting, he was always kind of twitchy and scrawny. His usual mop of black hair is all static-y now.

You turn away, making sure to not face that table. Last thing you need is your new buddies meeting the jerk who always messed up your stuff.

Anyway, there's a lady with really dark skin… from one of the western cities maybe? Looks like level two Cleric with the hexer specialization, named Shimah. They can still heal though, you're pretty sure. She almost as stacked as Maya too, way to make you feel good about yourself. Stupid boobmonsters.

There's a nervous looking level one sword warrior in the back corner too, dark green hair, pretty handsome though, not in the jerky bodice ripper way of the knight from yesterday though. Looks like his name is…Hiro? Who names their kid Hiro?

Well whatever, glancing over Crystal Lake in Maya's menu now that you've partied again, you can see that its level cap is only six, but it has eight rooms and suggests four people… you and your party could probably do it anyway, but do you wanna try and grab one of the other people hanging around before you set out, since Sera won't be making it today?

[]Try to pick up someone else?
[]You'll be fine… buy some antidotes on the way out though.
[]Never mind, try a different Dungeon

((Short update, but hey only a short wait. Will do the mission tutorial shortly.))

You can pick up missions on the notice board in the City Plaza. Missions Unlike dungeons do not have clear level requirements. Though the City Mission council ranks jobs according to likely difficulty.

Missions can be all sorts of things, from retrieving certain rare reagents from outside the city, to escorting a non branded through dangerous territory, or even investigating monster infestations in the 'real world.' Missions rarely drop the sort of treasure dungeons do unless you happen to encounter a rare monster. However as they are often coming from individuals of means, or even the city itself, they often pay quite well in Gilder, and can have some unique rewards that cannot be found in dungeons. Early on, missions are also a good way to discover things that may be hidden around the city, the Branded Sector has many little places not well known outside of their clientele that may be interesting to the new branded.

The risk of Missions though, is the risk of the job giver being wrong. it is always possible that the infestation of dire rats in ones basement is actually a ferocious earth drake tunneling up from a subterranean dungeon. Be wary when taking missions, especially as the ranks rise. To take a Mission simply take the notice from the board and your Mystic senses will guide you to the mission giver, who will usually provide more detailed information.

Missions use the same E-S ranking system as all others, you cannot take missions with a rank higher than your highest ranking Job. EX rank missions exist, but are typically only issued when city ending threats occur. In these cases all Branded living in the threatened city receive the mission, and the condition is generally simply to survive and contribute as you can.

Quick little mission tutorial.

Well we needed a cleric, and she is alone. Another debuffer will help too. Especially since we do attract bonus bosses. Poor Anshelm really is going to be drowning is estrogen.

@yrsillar What does an Elemental Vial do? Boost spell power?
