Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Seems like it might be time to buy up as many YV-929s as possible to act as escorts for the Guild.

It also seems like Maul is moving, this stinks of his Crimson Dawn pulling strings to cripple or tangle up a Sector.

....could also start setting up some Droid Frigates to act as escorts, would be tricky as people still remember the Clone Wars but if things get bad enough....

Ideally he needs something thay acts like a Frigate, in the old Age of Sail sense, fast enough to run down pirate freighters and frigates while having enough firepower to cripple them.

It's funny to see, that him not making full use of his political power and keeping things legal and fair is now finally making things harder and more complicated for him.

He knows the profits of the slavers have increased but they don't pay more taxes (that's treason) and he's pretty sure the pirates work for them. Any other Imperial would have send in the troops by now to get rid of them and seize their planets/assets.

Instead he's wasting his time with investigating them and doing everything by the book.
He seems to not fully understand the power he now has as a Moff.

Mom coming to minda. Funny, but isn't he officially outranks her by now? Can he just put a wall of paperwork and squad of death guard in front of her and just be off? Something like:
-sorry mam, we cant let you to see the governor without a prior appointment.
-what?
-please fill a27be7 , s81kf and aajk76 blanks with copies of your passport to proceed further.
-do you know who you are talking with ?! I'm -
*Death squad pointing blasters against her.
-i think you should leave mam.
-... And how do i get an appointment than? *(Maliciously screeching her teeth, or mandibles,)
-please, call the reception for an appointment. The application period for an appointment takes only from three to fifteen years.
*Silent bewliberent

If we are talking something like that and relatively ubiquitous, I would recommend the Consular-class cruiser's Charger c70 retrofit. Consulars were cranked out a lot during the Clone Wars and they were made by CEC which is heavily invested in the MARD.

Shouldn't be too hard to purchase any obsolete models and update them to do some pirate chasing. Even the original models would be able to be converted into the Charged variant pretty easily.

There is having that kind of power, then there is using it. By doing everything by the book and setting up systems he is future proofing his government to be able to handle stuff like this in future.

Just ramming the Imperial Navy into the slave worlds would solve this problem quickly, but Las' way makes the sector more resilient against the next time the Rebels, Imperial warlords, or the syndicates pull this nonsense again.

Junsrhe had followed his family, and taken an Ash-Mark of peace, to eschew violence of any kind, for any reason.

And then he saved a child by killing a beast. And he was exiled, surviving day by day on the outskirts of tribal territory, never plunging into the deep forest of the tribes, but unable to return to the safety of civilization.

How would a such society survive?

Mommy "dearest" is coming

And it's gonna be such an awkward thing to see her stand at attention to her higher authority son. Especially when whatever political and social base she had to stand on, died when Tarkin and a good chunk of his subordinate staff became dust with the Death Star.

Las: "Sooooooo, turns out I was more fit for management than the military"

Mom: *Silently sweating that the 'boy' she threatened and tossed in a backwater, became such a powerful person and in charge of a vital base of industry and commerce* "...I see"

How would a such society survive?
yeah its not that everyone makes the same vow. or that all people make the vow at all. but the more religious priestly classes do make the vows, with different families often having generational ones that all members take. so you still have a military and functioning society, but the priest classes take vows to show their determination and all that.

A sacred promise that acts as a form a self sacrifice that shows discipline and devotion. And is hard enough that it's not merely a look a me action but one that hurts to put away. It's hardly even unique to one religion in some form or fashion.

My bet, Mother is going to show up and Las will be very confused when she's proud of him and happier than ever. Bc it always seemed like she was a parent who theoretically wanted their kid to succeed, but only knew one version of success and so fucked up said kid.

What do you mean Minda has Shipyard!

When Minda announced the placement of 20 shipyards within their system many fellow governors in the local area got their ears talked off. When their patrons asked why scions of many CORE WORLD FAMILIES were being made to look lazy and stupid by a nobody from those wannabes in Eradu.

Fortunately there was a solution Rendili.
A company that had fallen out of favor with the imperial government but that remained a major player based off its legacy designs remaining in widespread use and more importantly in this case, industrial strategy.

This has resulted in a dozen "shipyards" that currently amount to an assembly facility for a single corvette sized ship. Most currently lack any production facilities at all with plans only to begin installing production lines for the simplest items sometime next year.

Guild Assessment: The investment in 10/12 yards by those known or suspected to be a part of the Slaver faction will be significant sources for weapons and pdf grade components that can be 'lost or stolen' to the many pirates currently attacking our shipping. Until we can get repeated evidence of components passing through those yards into criminal hands the Moff won't be able to move against them particularly considering their sponsors in the Core.

At this point, isn't he more of a White Sheep? He's certainly been doing better than he rest of the family…
That depends if she values his achievements. And ain't here to down play, gaslight, and otherwise act like he means nothing.

She was a tarkin lackey, she is going to be of the mind that fear is the only way to rule. And I'm sure she'll be very happy to hear about his Twi'lek friend.

It also seems like Maul is moving, this stinks of his Crimson Dawn pulling strings to cripple or tangle up a Sector.
Maul ? Huuuuuum, pretty sure he's been dead for quite a while in this story. Mola inherited the TIE Defender project following Thrawn's disappearance, meaning this story's timeline includes Rebel, meaning that Maul got whacked by Ben on Tatooine several years ago.

Ideally he needs something thay acts like a Frigate, in the old Age of Sail sense, fast enough to run down pirate freighters and frigates while having enough firepower to cripple them.
Munificent frigid ships would be good. And they're cheap, require a very small organic crew, or even no crew at all, and the corporate sector is building them by the thousands. The only downside is the stigma associated with cisgender people. But to be honest, that shouldn't bother Lars. He's practically a little dictator anyway.

First thing first before mom arrives, an info campaign

Let "loose" on the gossip grapevine that the Moff's mother is on her way to visit, along with whole story of why and how he got sent there. But most importantly, really emphasize the fact that she was in deep with Tarkin's camp. That her firm belief in the Tarkin Doctrine had her toss aside Las who wouldn't adhere and placed a challenge that would've spelled his end, had he not risen to Moff in time.

Is any of this true?

Doesn't matter, the important thing is to make sure the loyal and the opportunists against Las, are united in rejecting someone that was party to the "Great Traitor" Wilhuff Tarkin. And would ruin the lucrative jewel Las made

Description

"What about that new model of pirate ship spotted in the galactic north?"

"Are you crazy!? Morale will plummet if we put our men and women in those walking time bombs!" - Rebel procurement officers discussing the possibility of purchasing Ambuscaders for the Rebel Fleet

The appearance of Ambuscader in the Myto sector heralded a new wave of piracy. As 1ABY wore on, more and more of these ships began appearing to attack Guild shipping. Guild authorities have offered a large bounty to track down the source of these vessels.

Design

"For the 14th time, I don't care if it is 10 meters below the standard minimum length. We are calling it a corvette!" - Lead analyst for the new class of pirate ship spotted around the Myto sector.

Captured Ambuscaders have offered some insights into how these starships have been made. Unfortunately any identifying markers for a specific world or shipyard remain elusive. A vast majority of parts and components are generic, widely available commercial variants found in most starports and shipyards.

The Ambuscader is designed to raid commercial shipping then run away when a warship arrives in the system. Its armaments reflect that intention by generally being cheap, weak, and installed more for intimidation rather than battle.

The primary weapons of an Ambuscader is 4 double laser cannon turrets often found on freighters or other civilian vessels. These can be threatening to civilian shipping , however they are rather anemic when facing an armed enemy of a similar size. These turrets are often built larger than necessary in order to increase the chance of its prey mistaking them for turbolasers.

The primary use of these turrets is pull up alongside a slow moving civilian vessel and fire a warning salvo to encourage it to surrender. This is more for intimidation since the commercial fusion generatorand poor electrical wiring an Ambuscader is installed with is often too weak for sustained salvos. Nevertheless this show of potential force has proven enough for civilian ships to concede to the pirates.

The remaining weapons are dedicated to a more pursuit style of attack. 2 chin mounted starfighter grade ion cannons and a tractor beam projector are excellent choices for chasing down a shuttle or wounded ship to gradually slow down and disable it. Once the target's escape is stopped, it can be boarded or dragged to a more convenient location to finish off at their leisure.

Manufacturing analysis indicates the ship was built with unskilled, most likely forced labor. This has resulted in components being less durable and need maintenance more frequently. Whether it is just the parts manufacturers or even the assemblers who are enslaved is yet to be determined.

The Ambuscader appears to be manufactured in four separate 22 meter long rectangular parts, then welded together. This has furthered weakened the already fragile hull and poor structural integrity along with likely causing chronic failures in life support and electronics. Attempts have been made to mitigate the former by installing four separate life support systems and shoddily linking them together.

Unfortunately this manufacturing method combined with the use of generic parts allows for Ambuscaders to be built in small commercial level shipyards. The Empire is having difficulty keeping track of these kinds of shipyards with priority given to tracking down Rebel aligned ones over syndicate aligned ones. As such it is unlikely for the Empire to locate the source of these new pirate ships without considerable effort or luck. Especially if they are coming from outside the Myto sector or worse from inside Wild Space.

Performance

"Surrender now, or face the wrath of my broadside!" - Captain Gforgo threatening a medium freighter with his Ambuscader.

Analyzing the history of attacks shows Ambuscaders mainly operate alone or with a few starfighters such as uglies with them. This seems to be due to a warband pooling enough Credits to purchase a single Ambuscaders with loans to cover the rest of the cost. The silver lining being that there has yet been a pirate flotilla of Ambuscaders being sighted.

Raids are usually conducted against slow moving Guild transports along low priority routes. The Ambuscader would utilize its 4 ion engines to catch up to the target once discovered and then threaten its destruction if it doesn't surrender. Those that fought back found the Ambuscader to have enough firepower to defeat many civilian vessels in a straight fight.

When an Ambuscader faces a properly armed starship, then things turn out very differently. It suffers from poor armor and hull due to its poor manufacturing. This leads to the Ambuscader being destroyed once its shields are penetrated with sections of the vessel being easily blown off the rest of the structure. A starship as small as a YV-929 has been able to defeat the Ambuscader with regularity.

This does not mean the crews of the Ambuscader solely relied on the military capabilities of the vessel to conduct raids. Several tricks and tactics have been employed by the pirate crew to secure their prizes.

One such tactic is to bolt on pieces of lightweight metal on order to mimic the profile of an Action IV, a popular 100 meter long cargo transport. The disguised Ambuscader would then fake engine trouble and approach the "fellow" cargo ship to ask for assistance. They would then jettison the disguise of the ship once they had gotten close enough revealing their true colors.

Another tactic is to bolt on disposable rocket boosters order to either chase down their prey or flee once a warship notices their activities. The main downside of these boosters is that they are incredibly vulnerable to weapons fire. Ambuscaders that failed to jettison their boosters once combat began would often find them exploding once targeted and taking the rest of the ship with it.

Conclusion

"Hate it. Hate it so much. If there wasn't already a blanket bounty on them I would post one myself." - Mard Shipyard worker sharing his views on the Ambuscader.

The Ambuscader is a ship that seems designed to inflict suffering on everyone it comes in contact with. From the people that build it, the people that crew it, the people it attacks, and the people that inevitably destroy it. Unfortunately unless an intelligence breakthrough is made, it is a ship that will inflict itself upon the trade lanes of the Myto sector for the foreseeable future.

——

A little "upgrade" for a potential enemy faction to field against the Myto sector. Why go through the trouble of building a big ship when you can just build four small light freighter sized ship parts and staple them together? Can it stand up to a peer vessel? Heck no, but a pirate ship is mainly for looking intimidating, sneaking up on something weak to pick on, and running away from anything slightly threatening. The Ambuscader can do that because it is the schoolyard bully in the form of a ship.

I kept the production details vague so anyone in the story could potentially use it. With how many hidden shipyards we see in the galaxy, figured there might be one stolen away making small combat ships for criminals. Probably a lot more than one if I am being honest.
