So normally there's not a lot of details that I see in Abaddon's strips that I feel compelled to point and squee at, mostly because his art is always so pretty as a whole. But this time, there's something I really want to point out that I loved.

That four panel splash of Alison crying at the thought of her parents and how she may not see them again, the Key grows dimmer in each one. By the time it get's to the fourth, the Key's light is completely gone. But then when she gathers herself and her resolve it lights back up gradually before expanding into a full crown.....

Beautiful. Loved it.

Now let's see if she can live up to it.

You know, originally I always thought White Chain's intro to metaphysics and why the Key is important was a somewhat clumsy bit of lore dumping.

Now I realize that that's just the kind of person she is and I sorta love her for it.

I've been looking forward to seeing more of Solomon since he was first introduced. It will be interesting to see how the gang deals with a demiurge who actually seems to be trying to make things better.

 

From the text I'm pretty sure it's lawful in this case. I can see him having created a set of laws that he thinks is best and harshly punishing all those in his realms that don't follow them. I can also imagine that he bought Zaid from Mammon in the hopes of 'guiding' the guy who he thinks will be the rising king so that he can stay in power and maybe have a chance of instituting his order in all the realms forever instead of just in his little slice of the multiverse. I guess we'll see soon.

 

Why do I feel like he actually has no idea what's going on or how to handle it and that's what his Council is for?

Oho, this sounds interesting. I wonder if Allison might inherit his key rightfully through this circle of strength.
Also, I'm looking forward to Solomon's character portrait and full title. What do you think his divine word is? Law? Power? Strength? Maybe Justice?

Are the characters finally getting more likeable? Had put it on the "read later" when everyone decided to keep acting like asshole to each other, and haven't kept up with it in a while...

Good news is that Zaid isn't just in stasis somewhere.
Bad news is that Solomon has taken an interest in him.

 

"Why are there two suns?"

"Well the old one got broken during the war, so I had to replace it and I just figured why not put two there?"

It looks like Allison and Zaid are going to meet soon, so I guess she will finally have to decide if she wants to hand over the power to him or keep it and become the rising queen herself. This will be fun.

 

Something tells me it's not weariness but boredom.

 

It would be funny if the entire arc was from Zaid's perspective, and just as he manages some kind of victory space time rips open and some strange ship comes flying out of the hole with... is that Allison?!?!

Huh, I reckoned that he would be the bearer of the word "blade" and that diamond would go to the oracle encased in glass.

As for the question if he cares or not, I think he does care, but that it's still an act to keep his image as the benevolent god emporer intact and to wow Zaid. If people ever stopped seeing him as the wise, eternal king there might be problems. Their faith in him might be one of the pillars that keeps this huge nation together.
