If there's any way to view the synonyms, then it might be acceptable.
Otherwise, you'll fall into the issue where you have a 3 letter shorthand could mean anything.
And of course, the Japanese-English debate. I'd prefer the latter, both for consistency, after all, we can't use Japanese names for English works like Worm, and because this is an English site.

also a crossover lmao - Author having fun, sure, but other tags where the author was having fun you put on the merge list.
crossover and au - Any crossover is an AU, so no additional information.
crossover but not obvious - All that says is it's a crossover.
crossover massively au - okay, this does convey additional information.
{crossovers eventually - eventual crossover} To the extent these provide additional information they don't belong in the same synonym bucket as the regular crossover.
{more crossover to follow - more crossovers possible - okay fine crossovers - slowly growing crossover - unexpected crossovers - we had to crossover at some point} this are all just "crossover"

{crossover elements - crossover characters - crossover waifus - lots of minor crossovers - silly crossover elements} Okay there I agree provide more information

A lot of people are likely more familiar with the former than the latter.
ZnT didn't get much of a release in the west, only the first and maybe the second season were translated, none of the LNs or the game(s) were translated officially.

And Zero no Tsukaima is less of a tongue twister mouthful than say Kusuriya no Hitorigoto or the job description Isekai titles we see nowadays.(Those getting tagified is gonna be a huge can of worms)

And ZnT sounds better than FoZ, which makes me think of fuzz for some reason.

That's why all those Synonyms for 'harem' are there, instead of being merged. *looks over list* I suppose 'this is a no harem zone' and 'au as fuck' would also be in that category? Can move those over to the Synonym list, and any other ones you think I missed. *edits* If it doesn't impact search, there's not really a problem with having a bit of flavour.

This does make me think we should set up some kind of process after this where people can request unique tags they've made be made Synonyms of general Canon tags.

I mean, 'crossover and au' could be distinguished from a normal crossover in that those setting being melded aren't canon settings in the first place, independent from the effect of combining, and 'not obvious' has meaning. Probably no one is going to want to distinguish while searching, but it does tell readers additional information.

There's some additional information, but I'd think anyone wanting to search (or exclude) crossover would want those results as well (as 'eventual harem' is Synonymised with 'harem'), as it's stating the intention for its inclusion. Just that it might take a bit. The reason I didn't merge the two, is because of the s in 'crossovers eventually'. Thinking about it, probably would be better as a Synonym of multicross. *edits*

Some of these could also be merged with multicross, or put in the bucket. Agree 'we had to crossover at some point' can probably just be merged into 'crossover'. 'Slowly growing' I'd just leave with the 'crossover' Synonyms. *edits*

Agree. Going to just remove that and keep separate, as I have with 'possible harem'.

I'm also going to make 'my hero academia' and 'boku no hero academia' Synonyms. There's no potential for confusion there, so, as I mentioned before, we don't really need to set a standard for en vs jp.

I'm not sure if you have thought about this but the site Archive of our own has a good tag system. Where a bunch of tags are linked under a larger main tag. And searching for that main tag will give you results for every tag that is under it as well.

That option does not exist for QQ, the parent-child tagging option it is not part of the code.
SB iirc has that function, but it is their proprietary code.
