So what if Salem has side projects? Not exactly meant to destroy humanity but experiments of hers that also make things worse.

I had a idea of Salem making legendary items throughout history and mythology. Everything from a shield that can block almost any attack (but if something is ever strong enough to actually break it you instantly drop dead by taking ALL the damage it's ever blocked) to a monkeys paw, to my personal favorite a sword that you can trade lifespan to to make stronger. Give up a week of your life and cut through a battleship (without aura) give up more and wipe out a city. But you have to pay a life force price every time you draw the sword.

Salem makes these to fuck over humanity and they do but they fuck her over just as much, if not more so.

You are forgetting the other narrative trope that can come into things, the plucky main character improves over the course of the fights and becomes more motivated than ever. The final battle is a draw or near loss with the scrappy underdog getting the moral victory.

Basically think Rocky. With Ozpin being the crazy mentor who knows more than he's showing.

He doesn't get it, no. Mixing Jaune's memories with my own gets a guy who wants to save the world and all he loves but doesn't feel he deserves to enjoy it.
