The fuck is CE?

 

Common Era, basically means the same thing as AD.

Edit: BC is before Christ, BCE is Before Common Era.

 

Common to what? Like, why the fuck are we using some foreign calendar nonsense. It's like measuring in Celsius, or some shit.

 

I use Celsius... also it’s used to avoid the religious connotations AD has. It’s the same year and everything, so it’s not like using a completely foreign calendar.

I remember growing up with BC and AD. Usually in private christian schools. Then I started going to public high school in the mid-to-late '00s, and the textbooks (at least the newer ones) had CE and BCE. It's a relatively recent change, making things a bit more secular. You know, helping ensure the separation of church and state, as encouraged in the constitution of the united states. To get into more detail would risk rule 8 so ill end it here.
