As the notice informed you all, we officially do not honor account deletion requests. This has always been my policy, but its official now.

The most commonly cited reason for people making these requests is that some content on QQ may be illegal in their country. We are legal where we are hosted, and beyond that, its not our responsibility.

But, of all the potentially bad sites on the net, QQ doesn't really register. The law isn't gonna be concerned with your fictional porn choices.

Well, unless you're in the UK, Australia, or Canada, and you somehow get involved in politics and the idiots in power want to make an example of you for some reason. Well, or you attract that one German government office that's been going about putting major economic/political pressure on site owners (and their hosting servers) due to them being places with porn of that they don't approve of (that's why hentai-foundry kind of folded and changed their rules on what context was allowed there, as an example), but that's not really likely unless QQ starts hosting a lot more pornographic content than it currently does.

Yeah QQ doesn't even register as Unsafe Content on my phone, and FF.net DOES rofl. People who are suddenly ashamed of their QQ account need to chill... and probably shouldn't have registered in the first place if its that big a deal.

So we just need to get 26 more rules for QQ, then we will have the perfect number. Also personally I don't see why anyone would ask to have their account deleted, if you don't want it just don't log in. Not like anyone could blame you for making an account then finding out something about the site wasn't for you after all, nearly everything requires you to sign up before you can get to it.

...and what do the site owners have to do with the first part of what I typed?

The people asking for account deletions are not the site owners, and those individuals only really face risks if they live in those countries listed and decide to go into politics or piss off some politician/district attorney (and said people in power want to make 'examples' of anyone).

The only threat the site owners might face (and it is highly unlikely at that) is if that one German government agency that deals with 'obscenity' gets involved and they try to put pressure on the site/server owners, but that is very unlikely due to the fact that QQ has such low traffic and thus is unlikely to attract that sort of notice.

And yes, a lot of European governments (France and Germany most notably) have been putting pressure on sites hosted outside of their countries and laws in ways that are quite honestly baffling.

This was the part I was referring to. Also they still wouldn't do anything because LG is an American citizen and nothing on here is against US law. The State Department would tell the Germans to go fuck themselves.

    'MURICA, yo.

Multiple requests, mostly. The main reasoning behind it was to ensure the integrity of the archives.

We're hosted on an unmanaged generic VPS provider, we're paying out of the pockets of a small number of donors, and the corporate structure of the site is "LG". I would be very surprised if pressure from a German governmental agency was capable of bringing us down, more so if it were long-term, and most surprised of all if they even bothered to try.

    *pings Hentai-foundry.com*

I assume that the folding mentioned is referring to Hentai-Foundry's recent rule change on loli content.

    Yep, that.

And why in the hell did my spellcheck change the word "Content" to "context"? Bloody hell.

    "Is there a problem, officer?"

"You were travelling ten over the limit. Do you have anything to say for yourself?"

    "Not really."

    "Give me your phone?"

    "Huh?"

    "Jeez, fine!"

Technically the stuff QQ is illegal in malaysia and could be used to put you away. Good thing i never became a prosecutor or went into politics. (Memo to self need to conslidate the lewds onto dedicated drives for ease of disposal/storage)

mind you this is the nation where islamic religious affairs people raid christian bookshops and churchs for the nonexistent crime of having bibles (some people are super butthurt the bible was translated into malay), where Special Branch was regularly paying visits to my dad to make sure he wasnt converting muslims.

...Not to be insensitive, but the more I hear about other countries the more I am glad I'm not there. Yeah the USA has plenty of shit that really sucks about it, and more being added onto every day, but still some of that other stuff is just...I'll deal with this kind of bullshit just so I don't have to deal with that kind of bullshit.

Stick to the devil you know, and all that.

Though I would consider using as much encryption as is practical to be basic precaution in the US as anywhere else. If nothing else, extralegal persecutions do not have any scruple against ex post facto.
